insteon Motion detector II will not link to ISY?

I have several motion sensor II devices and only one out of the 5 will link to the ISy. I am running V5.0.15A.

I do a factory reset and then try to link.

I get an error that says cannot add device. Is there a limit to sensor devices? I have 4 water sensors, 1 motion II, and 3 old motion sensors.

Are you sure the unit actually factory reset?
It takes a long time and flashes weirdly for about 60 to 80 seconds.

I have read the manual on them and followed to a t. Remove battery, press and hold set button, reinsert battery wait for the buzzing to stop let off and it should chirp twice. I just ordered a new one to see if the batch I had before was bad and same thing. It recognizes the sensor displays the info for it and simply says cannot add device. I have searched all over on how to get a list of devices and scenes so I can tell if im at my limit but I do not see any way of finding out how many devices I have connected. All I keep seeing is PLM links display.

I can list all devices but its like 6 pages on a 4K screen and there is no way Im going to try and count them. Why there is not an option to display a count number  is beyond me.

So upgraded to PRO and all I can say is WTF I thought there would be a module(memory) or something to plug in as an add-on but to just unlock existing functions in my ISY that were already there? What kind of money grab is that? If there is no difference between the regular and a pro besides UD allowing you full access to their device why not just have them all the same. Dont get me wrong the ISY is a good device but this just seems shady from a company. And yes upgrading fixed the issue because it is not a device limit(I wasnt even close) it is a device, scene, folder, program limit. How about in the info tab in the designer you show us where we are at so we dont waste DAYS trying to add a single device only to have it continually fail with NO mention of the fact I have reached a imaginary limit and need to give up more money to be allowed to add more devices!

My speculation is that back in a day memory was more expensive but prices have fallen to the point where it was more expensive to keep ordering separate hardware. Seeing it as "money grab" and "shady" is arbitrary. Would it make you feel better if UDI made you ship your ISY for upgrade and then return it back to you?

You have a valid complaint with no appropriate error message. Contract UDI support and have them fix it. Perhaps most of users who test beta firmware use PRO and they're not aware of the issue.

There is no hardware upgrade involved in the upgrade. What you get is increased capability enabled on many fronts.

Years back my brother watched as IBM came in to upgrade the memory on a mainframe computer. The tech walked in, removed the back panel, flipped a dip switch and rebooted the machine. All for less than $80,000. The possibility the mainboard may have needed replacing was included in the price but...…? WTF?

Anybody familiar with Apple products is very familiar with these processes as well as MS and Google now. Perhaps all those app you have been downloading were all included inside your smart phone in the first place? How many app are really already inside your smart phone's 256GB rom memory?

How much have you paid for version upgrades from UDI so far?

It's a no win situation. Have 1 level of device someone will complain they don't need everything so they are paying extra for unused stuff. Unlock features and you'll have someone complaining of a money grab. Everything is based on perspective. You can say it's shady to unlock additional features or you can say you paid a lower cost for what you needed rather than extra for something that may never get used.

It's hard to say what the limit is which is why there probably isn't a warning as the limit is based on a multitude of factors.  Removing a kpl will open up more nodes than a relay switch. Or using an insteon plug in module would allow more devices than a zwave plugin. It's probably difficult to ascertain the exact amount of nodes (though a warning stating it's a possibility once it stops working would be nice)
