pgreen Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I have series of motion sensors and door open sensors set up in my Insteon network which are monitored by the ISY-99. I would like to set a program up such that while I am away, when a sensor is tripped it with will turn on a bunch of lights/alarm and send me an email. What I would like to be able to do is to have a keypad or an RFID tag at the front door which I could use to let the ISY-99 know if am away or at home. i.e. I basically what the ISY-99 to replace my current old school alarm system. Has anyone attempted this? Does anyone have any recommendation on how to input a security code and have an RFID tag trigger programs in the ISY? Thanks Peter Green
Michel Kohanim Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Hi Peter, Currently ISY does not support RFID unless the RFID device has an INSTEON interface. In lieu of RFID, you could assign a button on a KeypadLinc as your home/away indicator. Then, you create a folder which is enabled if and only if you are away (i.e. the status of the KPL button is off). You can add as many programs as you wish under the folder. This way, those programs will run if and only if you are either away or home. With kind regards, Michel
Brian H Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Smarthome has an RFID Kit for Insteon. Basically it is a reader that uses a relay module to trigger an IOLinc Sensor Input. I built one with parts since I had recently purchased a four pack of IOLincs and didn't need another one. I found a few errors in the Instruction sheet but it did work. Security Codes; as mentioned; maybe a different thing.
apostolakisl Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 How serious are you about securing your house? Insteon is pretty good, but I don't know that I would consider the reliability high enough for a security system. It is also will fail in the event of a power outage.
