You really should consider moving to 5.X  . It is the most compatible version with all new Zwave devices, regardless of whether this resolves your issue or not. Jump and also get to Polyglot (Polisy) and you will enter a whole new world of HA.

I'd love to, but I've never gotten v5 to work. V4 works just fine, and lets me do everything I need to do. I've already spent too much time on the UI thing, now I just want to get the Inovelli switch to work, as that's the only issue I have with my ISY right now.

I'll chime in.  I have 5 black and 2 red inovelli and no issues.  Currently no issues running 5.3.0 and have the admin console also updated.  Have the external zwave.  Also managed this under mac and linux, with no issues.  Haven't upgraded any inovelli firmware.

Problem 1:  There's known issues with Inovelli Red/Black that requires FW updates on their devices.

Problem 2:  Currently you can't perform device FW updates from the ISY.  You'll have to use a different controller and software for this.  A USB Z-Wave stick UZB7 or Aeotec are good options and the PC Controller software from SiliconLabs is free.

Problem 3:  When running Linux it's best to use official JRE from Oracle and not mess around with IcedTea as it's no longer supported well anyways.  I've run Linux with Oracle JRE without any problems.

Question 1:  Why are you mucking around trying to include a switch securely?  It doesn't provide any "security" as the traffic is useless even if someone was sitting in the same room with a zniffer watching the traffic.

Info:  ISY does not support 5.0.16 does not support S2 security either so turn off secure inclusion in the ISY and force the device to use no security to include it.

1: I got that part, was just hoping someone had made some progress or something had been figured out for further troubleshooting.

2: I'll get the ZWave stick and get the software, assuming it can run on Win7.

3: I've never been able to make the official JRE work in Linux Mint (ubuntu), and IcedTea has always been great at letting me access the Admin Console UI from Linux. The last time I tried to run Oracle's JRE, I was blocked with a security warning, but I don't remember what it said, as that was several months ago when I was trying to fix the UI issue.

A1: This is how it seems to want to be added. I can at least get it to recognize the switch when I try and securely include, but if I turn off secure ZWave in the admin console and try to add the switch, Console throws a fit.

I: Can you clarify the support statement? ISY doesn't support v 5.0.16? That's what my ISY shipped with. The only secure zwave I can disable is ZWave>ZWSecureDevices>Don't allow secure devices. I've tried that, and was hit with another error about "not securely added" the Inovelli goes red indicating inclusion failed, and it never shows up in the devices on admin console.

Just curious what firmware update you're referencing? I can check with Eric M (CTO) but I don't remember and firmware directed at fixing any ISY compatibility.

@seattlestexan - on the front of your switch (the black metal part), can you see a date code? It should be a four number code. I'll be able to tell what firmware version you have just in case I was wrong about the firmware statement above (I admit I haven't been following the enhancements as closely as I should and @simplextech is always spot on).

I'm waiting for another FW/UI update from UD before I try updating the ISY's Admin Console UI again, due to having a butt load of issues last time. I also wasn't sure if Inovelli had a firmware update for the switch, if that's a thing.

The date code sticker on my switch is 0720. It's a Red series with the RGB indicator and no neutral required. (I really like the options with this, if I could just get the silly thing working.)

I wasn't very clear.  The 5.0.16 FW does not support the new S2 security that everybody is touting.  Most controllers don't support it and those that claim they do well don't support it very well.  However I'm gonna have to recruit @Eric_Inovelliso answer why the switch won't include without security.

Which ISY do you have? I've not been notified about 5.3.0 on my ISY994i ZW+ IR/Pro. Are you managing in Linux under a VM or in browser? Also, is your 5.3.0 beta or final?

Ahhhhhh okay, that makes more sense. Is 5.0.16 the latest stable, or has there been an update for the 994i ZW+ IR/Pro that I've not gotten the pop up about?

You won't be notified of a firmware update. Here's the 5.3.0 uodate info.

When did that change? I've always gotten a little "upgrade available" on the top of my admin console home screen.

I don't know when it changed. Maybe it didn't. I've never got the notification in the seven years I've had ISYs.

Have pro and manage under linux natively as well as mac.

Normally mine gives something to automatically do the upgrade under the help menu in the AC, but I don't have that currently. Only option I have is manually upgrade. Is 5.3.0 stable for the i/zw+/irpro?

I've had no problems with it. I have the same ISY as you.

It says I need the v5 UI, which puts me back to the UI fails to load after I select Admin Console. I feel like I'm chasing my tail on this whole UI/FW issue. Give me a minute to put my head through a wall.?

I think it's all Ubuntu at this point. ?

Which is debian :)

If you had problems with the Oracle JRE you probably used too new of a version as Oracle removed Java Webstart (javaws) from the bundle.  Stick with 1.8 and it works well on all of the distros I've used recently (Arch, Manjaro, Ubuntu, Ubuntu variants)

And don't forget the memory switch!!!  Can't remember it offhand but it can really be an issue.

-xmx512m or something like that. I read that earlier. Could there be something like that for IcedTea that I missed?

Wow... I just remembered I've not hear the name RedHat in years. lol
I've spent entirely too much time in front of a bright square thing.

Is there a safe place to download 1.8 that doesn't require me to set up an account I'm never going to use again?

I work with RedHat a lot at work but Fedora is more common at home :)

I always use the tarball and then adjust my PATH as I want/need.  There's deb and rpm's if you prefer those.

Apparently I have to be some corporate user to DL an older Java. RPMs or Tarballs, clicking download sends me to an Oracle login or create account screen, which then wants as much info as they can get.

Here.  I just tried this one and you can download the JRE with no logins or problems.

@lilyoyo1 @dbuss Do you have a solution that doesn't involve my version difference? I've already tried the troubleshooting listed here, plus other tips I've found, to no avail. Until there is a firmware and UI update, I'm not dealing with the UI issue further. Everything in the v.4 admin console works perfectly fine, and the only issue I'm having currently is the one that started this forum thread - my Inovelli switch fails to securely include to my ISY's ZWave network.

5.0 and 4.0 are different firmwares. By using a UI for 4.0 branch, there will be conflicts.

While, your switch may be having other problems, the mismatch will add to the problem as well
