simplextech Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 My guess... Never. Polisy... depending on the time frame of the convergence... around that time if 700 series USB sticks are available.
TheA2Z Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 Thanks Simplextech. Ive had a ISY for a few years and it has the old 300 zWave module. I am getting errors in my event log from newly added Zwave Plus devices. I need to get a zWave plus hub to take full advantage of these zWave devices. I know there is a 500 module out, but would hate to pay $50 for something that will be quickly outdated. Michel, can you shed some light on the new zwave module? @Michel Kohanim

Due to how Zwave works, having the 700 series chip in the ISY would offer absolutely zero benefit when coupled with anything less than 700. series devices (there is only 1 device currently for sale on the market) The same applies right now with the 500 series chips. Unless ALL of your devices are 500 series, the benefits of the newest chip would be lost.

Because I have an excellent mesh network I am not really concerned about range, but I'd like to gradually phase out the old switches and plugins because they do not have instant status reporting. My guess it will be another 10 years before all my devices will be 700 and then of course we may have Zwave 900, 1100, 1300 or another new technology all together ?

This is the problem with playing the zwave update game. The way zwave works, everything has to be the same. If this were me, I would wait to swap things when 700 series devices are available (if you can). While you wont get the benefits of it, should you go all in at some point, that would be less devices you would need to swap out. Having a strong Mesh network is the key which is why your system works really well. While battery life improvements and range are great, a strong network can mitigate some of those problems. With the frequency of wave chip updates, you are right; In 10 years, theyll be at zwave 1300 by the time you're ready. lol

Zwave Plus is important to me because of the status reporting, but other than that my current focus is to take advantage of the Polisy world....... and one day understanding variables ?

You better sit down with @larryllixfor that one...I rarely use them myself. The only time is to track status of a button that has multiple uses such as my outdoor scenes. Personally, I think instant status is the biggest difference. Thank God Lutron's patent expired.

He'll be stuck in all that snow until the spring when it finally melts Hardly saw any snow this winter. I still have some of the original tank of gas in my snowblower. Being in Mexico for 6 weeks helped a lot. Weather was unusual and it raised the price of snowcones at the local corner store. I set my weather variables to what we want and it just happens. You guys will learn to "feel the power of the variables" and leave the X10 world behind.

Michel Kohanim Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 @larryllix, We don't have any plans to support 700 series on ISY994. With kind regards, Michel
TheA2Z Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 Thanks all for your response. Trying to figure out best approach then for getting my zwave zWave+ to stop throwing so many errors in my event log. I have about 50 zwave devices that are a mix of 300 and 500 throughout the house. My current ISY is sitting at 300 Zwave board. @Michel Kohanim

TheA2Z Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 I have three zwave plus RGBW controllers from RGBGenie. I included them right next to my ISY with no issues. The are installed in my crawlspace on the other side of the house right next to other zwave plus GE outlets in the crawlspace. I have multiple GE switches and outlets in the house between the ISY and the area of the crawlspace. I have no issues with all the other zwave devices. The UID of the devices are 65, 66, and 67. Log, device info, and result of device sync below. Thanks
TheA2Z Posted April 22, 2020 Author Posted April 22, 2020 Fixed the problem. Added a couple of range extenders.
TheA2Z Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 I did order the 500 module. Looking forward to installing this week. Most of my devices are Zwave +. Will need to upgrade a few more of them to get them all to +.
TheA2Z Posted May 30, 2020 Author Posted May 30, 2020 Update on install. Installed the 500 module using process in forum. Unfortunately restoring the Zwave backup failed. I had to re-include all the devices, about 50 of them with most being zw+. It took all weekend but to ended up being cleaner. i had some nodes that were deleted but still showing in log. I also moved my ISY to be dead center in my house. Used a Powerline NW connection to reach it. Its now working great and seems faster with less lag on triggering devices.
