One is on the drop down menu, pick the pairing, put in the address, name the device, pick “discover” or go through a very long list to find 2477S and pick that. As it was pairing, very quickly the message would be “can’t find Insteon engine”. The other was is to put the switch in pairing more and have ISY search for it. Didn’t work. I tried on 2 new switches. Did both. Many times. BTW, I have over 40 Insteon switches in my home so the pairing is not new to me. I usually do it in my office, have made an extension cord that I hook the switch to so It’s easy. Did this in the office, close to the circuit breaker box and then in the same plug the PLM is plugged in to. None worked. I made sure that all electrical interference items were off, fluoresce lights were off. Tried many times. Put a older 2477S switch, it paired in the office the first time.

Brian H Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 A factory reset is recommended for all newly purchased Insteon Modules. It is possible it got shipped with some test links in it and was not reset at the factory. A factory reset clears out any stray links and setting in it.

You should hear two beeps confirming that your Wall Switch or Keypad has been reset Heard the 2 beeps, Still get "Cannot determine Insteon Engine". on both switches. Kind of strange, when I called Smarthone tech service, made it real clear they do not support Universal -Devices...

You can try manually linking the 2 devices to see if they look that way. If they do, then you know there is nothing wrong with the device I'm not surprised customer support said they do not support the isy. UDI is a 3rd party system. When they had the support team in Irvine, many of them had isy's themselves which allowed them to learn how to use it. With them outsourcing customer support, they simply aren't on the same level. Besides basic support, they're worthless. Insteon took 100 steps back with that move. Edited May 2, 2021 by lilyoyo1

I think that shows communication is happening in my environment The ISY is just not communicating with this newer version, Rev 8.2 5228
Brian H Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 If you have not tried it yet. You may want to open the Event Viewer in Level 3. Then try the process and see what the messages show. You should also be able to save the results in the Clipboard. So you can look at them more and maybe also post here.

Try your pigtail method on a different area
GeorgeRode Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 I have tried the pigtail in 3 areas, in my office, by the panel and then next to the PLM, none worked. My $.02 worth, it's a problem with the ISY not being able to communicate with the newest version of these switches. The ISY works fine with my older switch as stared above.

No INST-SRX Standard Insteon message received back from the ISY asking for the modules information. Like Category and Subcategory. To identify the module. Are you sure you have the correct 6 digit ID. B and 8 sometimes can be misread. 2E.8A.0B is responding "Sun 05/02/2021 08:57:20 AM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 13.9C.1C 00.00.01 CB 13 00 LTOFFRR(00)" INST-SRX is a message back from the device. They both linked, had another 58.5b.a1 that didn't link, put in 58.58.a1 as the address too.
