email issues after upgrade

I upgraded from 4.9.0 to 5.0.13C.  I can no longer send email or text messages  using the default (built in) mail server settings.  It worked fine until I did the update.

5.0.13C

@CPrince Are you sure about that version number? I don't specifically see this one. I see 5.0.13D in the past. Perhaps you meant 5.0.16C.

Do you have/use z-wave? If so, what version is your controller? If version 300 you cannot go beyond version 5.0.16C. But if it is a version 500 you should upgrade to the latest build of 5.3.4.

4.9.0 was the update to the 4.x line that altered the default mail server settings. There is a message from Michel from back in May suggesting 5.3.3 if on the 5.x release (and you meet the requirements if you use z-wave)

If you don't have a z-wave controller in the ISY then move up to 5.3.4 and you should be good to go again. I'm not sure if 5.0.16C had the updated default mail update or not, and doesn't look like they're going to push out a "D" version there for that. If you're "stuck" at 5.0.16C because of z-wave you should consider setting up a gmail account to use for notifications. Those directions can be found in the wiki

My bad. 5.0.16C, I just can't keep these versions straight.  I have the 300 zwave board.  Okay so the mail problem is related to the 5.0.16C version.  I will look into the "Michael back in May" and look at 5.3.3.  I may just pull the 300 module and go 5.3.4.  Thanks for the info.

They can use the temp one

What's the "temp one"? I haven't looked for that info, but wondered if it was available would ask. Personally, I've used a dedicated Gmail account since setting up the ISY. It's only been flaky a few times in the 5 years of use. I've tried to get into pushover now that I'm on 5.3.4, but haven't sat down to really make those notifications work.

I believe what @Michel Kohanim is referring to is emailing support@univeral-devices.com to be assigned email credentials that are manually entered in the "SMTP Settings" box in OP's first screen shot.

It was a temporary solution to the problem that was later fixed with a firmware release.

So users forced to use 5.0.16C because they have a 300 series Z-wave board can still use the default mail server, they just need to contact UDI support to make arrangements.

@Michel Kohanim, @MrBillThanks for the tip.  I just emailed support, looks like support is Michael.  I dread Gmail.  I think they are going to not allow me to disable 2 step authentication this week.  This is going to mess a lot of stuff up.  I have an email and Exchange server here but neither seem to work with ISY.  I wish I could pull an email log from ISY.  It is easier than pulling it from an active Exchange server.

I don't care for gmail either.  Others here have documented the procedure to create an app specific password to use with gmail.  UDI does have a plan B for your case.

Personally I created a Comcast email account that only the ISY uses.  It works well, but you need to be a Comcast customer.

Okay, I emailed support and haven't hard back.  I guess going to 5.3.x is the answer.  Gmail just hit me with the 2 step even though I have selected less secure.  Now I have to go around and find out what I am bouncing off gmail if anything and fix it.   I put WireShark on my mail server and found the problem.  The problem was in the negotiation of which authentication method to use.  It was having a problem with the PLAIN method.  Actually my server was having an issue with the PLAIN method.  I fixed that and hope I did not break anything in the process.  So I am doing it all in house as I would prefer anyway.

Thanks again.

@Geddy has some links that will help for gmail.  You basically need to create a gamil app specific password for the ISY.

Surprised support hasn't answered, UDI support normally replies in a matter of hours on weekdays,  maybe we should flag @Michel Kohanim, and remind him that he posted above about temp email credentials to use with 5.0.16C so that he knows what this is about.

@MrBill yeah, I think @CPrince is saying that he tried that and goofed something up internally or within the system that he's been running. Seems he runs his own mail server. Don't want to get into a mess mixing up Google 2FA and a home brew system.

I agree with @MrBill though...UDI Support is fairly quick with replies during the week. So either it got missed or a reply got filtered in spam somewhere. Perhaps send @Michel Kohanim a PM here or email support again just to be sure it's handled.

Good luck @CPrince! Post back if you need more help.
