What firmware should I upgrade to from 5.2?

I have not updated for a long time.  I have 5.2 installed right now, but am thinking about upgrading.  I see so many things that say a lot of manual intervention is needed on some of these. Is there one that will require less manual intervention?  It's not like I have days to spend reworking my system.  Thanks.

V5.3.4 fixed a few bugs from v5.2 and is the latest for ISY994i. The bugs and complaints you are likely seeing are for the polisy box, and not ISY994i.  The transfer over is a much tougher transfer and has some outstanding fixes needed.

V5.3.4 should drop in transparently from v5.2

Updating a 994i from 5.2 to 5.3.4 is simple.  You won't notice much change, however there are numerous bug fixes.  Backup, load the new firmware, the ISY will reboot itself.. You're done.

@larryllix mixed in some talk about ISY on Polisy, which unfortunately has duplicate version numbers.  It would have been much better if ISY on Polisy had been version 6, which I once suggested, it's very confusing with overlapping version numbers.

I had to uninstall and reinstall Java.  It now works kind of. The firmware and console now match.

When I do step 7 of the instructions, I can get to the isy.  When I do step 8 to launch directly from the isy, it works once, and then won't launch from that anymore.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

So, the only thing that I seem to be having problems with, is the ISY Admin Console shortcut.  The one from step #8.

The ISY launcher works fine.  I have to click on the ISY Admin Console shortcut 4 times before I can get in.  The first 3 times it says it is unable to launch the application. The 4th time it says it is downloading, and the 5th time, I get into the console.

I know I can just use the ISY launcher, and will.  I just need to know what I'm doing wrong as to why I can't get in easily through the ISY Admin Console?  Thanks.

@ingeborgdot It's been a while since I went through the update process, but now looking at the notes for the 5.3.4 update find a few issues with how they're presented.

Step 8 shouldn't be involved at all.

Currently the most suggested way to launch the admin console is through the launcher process (found here and referenced in this post).

What computer OS are you using? Windows or MacOS? In Windows once you've got the latest version of Java and have downloaded the launcher you should be able to get into the admin console with every click.

The launcher puts this icon on your desktop:

When you run the launcher it typically will open the "ISY Finder" window. That should automatically find the ISY as long as you're on the same local network as the ISY. If not, you will need to add it manually.

When you see your ISY listed you should be able to click anywhere on that row and will get another pop up menu to launch the Admin Console (lan or cloud) or Dashboard) [see below]

There is no difference for Admin Console here as long as you're local to your ISY. The "LAN" option lunches the admin portal directly from your local ISY. The "Cloud" option will download from the web to make sure UI/FW match (user interface and firmware).

What you're trying to do in step 8 is what many will consider the "old" method of getting the admin console directly from the ISY994 firmware package. That's great, and the best way to make sure you match, but starting with 5.x UDI developed the launcher to help take that guesswork out of the process. It's somewhat a failsafe, but we have seen issues with it working for some people on MacOS (it sometimes works, but sometimes doesn't work). For most Windows users the launcher works 100% of the time.

So if you've been able to upgrade the 994i to 5.3.4 and verified that firmware and UI match using the launcher...that's far enough. I wouldn't suggest the step 8 you mention of getting the admin console only directly from the ISY. I too have found it an issue after the first time launch is successful. The Launcher process works for me 100% of the time and the most simple way to access the admin console and assuring that UI/FW match.

When you click on Help | About the admin console what does it show for firmware and UI?

When you cleared your Java cache did you also check the box for Applications. Which would have deleted your ISY Launcher from your desktop. You would then need to download the ISY Launcher.

I've had the same experience lately since updating to 5.3.4.  Have to clear the Java cache to get it to run again after the first time.  Obviously using the launcher/finder is quicker than clearing the Java cache and re-downloading the admin console.  But I too liked the direct access w/o going through the launcher.

I spent hours the last time attempting to get the ISY Launcher. As it also happened a few years ago, it put it into my start menu on Win 10. Took me hours and many, many trials to remember it was in my start pullup menu under UDI.
