New or Old PLM

Featured Replies

Posted

I have a brand new unopened PLM I bought last time my PLM died so I would not have to be down.

moving to ISY on Polisy with lots of Insteon from a 994i

Should I use the existing PLM from the 994i or leave that and use a new PLM.

I think the only difference is you have to do the procedure for a new PLM once you finish the backup restore of the ISY.

I am thinking if it saves time (and potential headache) I should use the old PLM for now

I agree 1000% with this statement.   I plan to use my existing PLM.  If you change PLM's in the process and "Restore Modem" the links in every single Insteon device must be re-written.  Only change PLMs when you must.

believe me I have felt the pain.  And sometimes scenes dont work.  So this makes it easier.

So sounds like this will not be that bad to switch until I get to Z-wave.

My two issues there are the Yale locks fail 9/10 times when installing or uninstalling.  Once they are installed they are pretty flawless.

My other issue is I have a large house and had to put in about 12 repeaters and i have dog crates in one room and they seem to absorb the signal so I had to put repeaters in the 4 corners of that room.

I have perfect coverage now but probably 16-20 devices so get rid of each one and adding again is a few hour job.  I guess I could leave on OLD ISY for a while.

.... i have zero z-wave, so no advice there..

only reason I really have it is the locks.  what do you use (sorry I know we are getting off topic)

I use old fashioned locks so far...haha.   Actually the only way we enter and leave is through the garage, as such I haven't found a pressing need for locks yet.

What's the version and date codes of your old and the new PLMs

The newer PLMs have an improved rs232 interface and improved power supply.

I have two properties set up and decided to use new USB PLM's for both of them. My original thought was I might need to run both IoP and 994 for awhile.

As it turns out, except for one 994 running WOL, I am completely on IoP now.
