Random light turn on

Recommended Posts

First off. Not sure where the post should go.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I have been finding a couple of lights on in the early morning ever since I resolved a problem with my programs not working. Essentially, my programs stop working after one of the ISY firmware upgrades. I just recently got it working by using the cloud login instead of local to my computer. My UDI version is different than the ISY version and I can't get it to match up. (that's a problem for another day) My programs have been working fine now but I keep finding lights on early morning. I do not have any programs that use Motion or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I don't run that many at all anyways. Nothing to complicated. My son stayed over one night in our bonus room and was woken up several times to the lights going on by themselves. It's really annoying to hear my family complaining to me that this is happening. I can't blame them; it is very difficult explaining to my wife that this is a complicated matter. Not so easy to resolve. She doesn't want to hear this.

I do have Echo integration. I have looked into hunches in my Alexa app and there is nothing there indicating that it would turn lights on at 3:00 am. I have checked the logs extensively and keep seeing them going on with no indication of what is turning them on. I am really confused on where the signal would be coming from to do this.

Please help. My wife wants me to rip it all out. I have been doing this for years and I been using voice integration with Alexa ever since the Echo came out. I had a problem like this back about a year ago and found my PLM almost burned up inside. I replaced it and didn't have a problem since. (Though I would not have really known since programs were not working for a while, never realized that till most recently.)

Incidentally, it seems like if I turn my programs off this stops. Again, nothing in there that would be causing this that I have noticed.

Sorry for the lack of info.

The lights do go on at different times. Besides finding them on in the morning I have noticed at around 3am they would go on and then off after a little bit. They would also go on at different times after that. Mostly 2 different lights (bonus room and kitchen). In the log file (which I am going to attach) you can see this.

Is there a way to upload a copy of my programs?

Thank for the help!!

Matching UI and firmware are more important than you realize. Clear Java cache and use the launcher from the 5.3.4 page.

The rest sounds like communication issues. However, I wouldn't try to tackle that until your UI and firmware match

I did the upgrade per the instructions, and it worked. I was able to get the local UI to match the new firmware.

The even better news to this was after doing that everything worked fine last night. No lights on at any time.

Thanks for the help; I guess having a new upgrade did it also. When I upgraded the last time, it didn't do that out of the gate. I think it helped to erase everything prior.  I cleared Java and deleting previous downloaded start.jnlp file also might have helped.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

@JCelotto Welcome to the forums. Really glad you got upgraded to 5.3.4 and it worked out for you! That's great news. Probably not the total part of your problem, but ultimately having matching UI and Firmware are the most important troubleshooting steps we suggest users work through. It really makes a difference when you're updating devices, programs, or scenes.

As to your question above about uploading/sharing programs...you can individually or by folder. If you right click on a program and select the "Copy to Clipboard" option that will copy a text version of the program. Then open your favorite TEXT editor (in Windows I suggest the basic Notepad app). Paste what you copied into the text editor. (NOTE: do NOT use Word or other Word processor program/app as they sometimes auto format special characters. You want a plain TEXT editor.)

If you want to copy ALL of your programs then right click on the root directory/folder of the Programs tab and use the same "Copy to Clipboard" function. Then the paste will be much longer and will have space between programs. This routine is more for personal use/noting for when you update. Typically it was good to have this when upgrading from 4.x to 5.x because the "adjust scene" programs did not convert easily.

Final note...make sure you use the COPY to Clipboard option. There is an "export" option. You DO NOT want to use that just to make a simple text file for reference or for forum support if you ever need programming support in the future.

Good luck and happy exploring the ISY994 possibilities!
