Blackbird Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 I have been using isy insteon for years and bought the polisy when it came out. I have been wanting to install isy on polisy but from what I'm reading, I need a USB plm. Is this correct? If so, I can't seem to find any to buy. I bought a new house and need to add more switches but as I can't buy more Insteon, I need to go with zwave. So what hardware would I need to buy to get zwave 700 switches working on polisy? Seems like I'm stuck, can't add more insteon to the isy and can't use polisy for zwave because I can't get a USB plm. Thank you

Thank you Did you try clicking the links in the zwave tips and tricks or UDI's webpage for Polisy? I didn't have any issues with finding USB sticks in either one https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/34826-zwave-700-series-tips-and-tricks/ Edited April 16, 2022 by lilyoyo1

The one you need is the one that came in the box with the 2413s, maybe you kept it, maybe you pitched it. If you got rid of it, there are several threads with replacement solutions. Ordering it, or ordering an adpater from amazon. 6 hours ago, Blackbird said: I bought a new house and need to add more switches but as I can't buy more Insteon, I need to go with zwave. Or you can get one from Amazon. 6 hours ago, Blackbird said: Seems like I'm stuck, Doesn't seem like it to me.
bhihifi Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 I bought an Insteon 2448A7 USB dongle on eBay. Since the Insteon shutdown it is possible they took the listing down, but you might want to contact the seller chabaut_58 to see if they still have them. The dongle works well with the Polisy.
Blackbird Posted April 17, 2022 Author Posted April 17, 2022 Thank you guys. lilyoyo1: I will take a look at the link. MrBill: you said zooz 700, is that the dongle or just the brand of zwave devices? Also, do you mean there was a specific CAT cable that came with the PLM? bhihifi: is the insteon dongle that your referring to, for zwave? Thanks

That is exactly the type of detailed info I need when trying to get into zwave. Very helpful!

If you don't have any z-wave devices now, then buy only 700 series devices from any manufacturer. Stay away from 300/500 series for a brand new network.

I would imagine walls and doors play a part like you mentioned but from experience in a average house, what would you ballpark guess for distance? Thanks

Thanks No. The controller doesnt know distance nor intentions. What It knows is that it cant reach something but another device can. A 2000sq ft single story house with no walls will require less devices than a 2 story home with lots of doors, walls, and masonry work. Turns and furniture also play a part. For example, in my home, the closest zwave device to my ISY is about 5' away. Its not a neighbor to any devices in my network. Each room has its own zwave outlet and motion sensor in the closet. Yet in the upstairs bedroom thats closer to the ISY, that outlet isnt a neighbor to anything. Yet all upstairs motion sensors talk to an outlet thats further from the front bedroom in the hallway. If I were to remove that outlet, would things change...of course. But that is what I want to happen. If it were to die and I not realize it, the self healing properties of zwave will most likely fix it before I notice.
