Is Zwave the best alternative?  I heard there is need for lots of range extenders?  totally out of my "Insteon" comfort zone here

See the tips and tricks in the zwave sub forums

For lighting systems, Lutron's are the best replacement (Z-Wave is still way behind).  For everything else, Z-Wave is where it's at.

lutron isn't z-wave.

sorry confused, as Lutron does make zwave switches as well as wifi one and maybe more.  I am asking which ones to use if I upgraded to a Polisy?

Oh perhaps i'm confused, could you give the link to the z-wave devices on lutron.com?

To my knowledge Lutron does not make any Z-Wave devices, they have their own proprietary RF technology that offers functionality on par with Insteon (e.g. no popcorning and so on), though the tech is very different under the hood.

Could you be confusing Lutron with Leviton?  Leviton does indeed make a very large variety of Z-Wave and WiFi devices.
