Hi Bob, thanks again for all your work on this project.  Question, Im only showing the total KW on the VUE 2, is the Polyglot suppose to show each of the individual circuits (16) too? If so where should I look for the solution?

Any chance support could be extended for the Vue 2?  Would be happy to pay for the functionality.

There are a couple of us trying to get support for the Vue 2! Unfortunately if you don't buy the same items as what the developers have it is tough to get a node server for your product.

Yes, not having direct access to the equipment can make developing a node server more difficult.   But more than that is the time it takes to develop and support it when you don't have easy access to the equipment.

The bottom line with node servers is that unless the developer plans to use the node server themselves, it's just not real cost effect to develop one.

A professional software developer makes something like $100-$150 per hour.  Creating a node server will take between 50-100 hours. So the upfront cost to develop one is between $5000 - 15000.   That means that to try and break even, they'd need to sell a minimum of 100 copies at $50 per copy.   From the sales data I have for the past 7 months, my highest selling node server is less than 40 copies.  I don't have access to any other developer's sales number, nor do we track installations to know the quantity of "free" node servers that are in-use. So I don't really know the size of the potential market for any given node server.

That being said, my criteria for developing a node server isn't really based on the ROI, I do most of them because I like developing them.   I would certainly consider working on expanding the existing Vue node server to handle their other devices, but I really don't have the time right now to do that.

@bpwwerthank you for your transparency.  This information is good  and a lot of what I suspected from other threads.  I have a background in technology, and commonly see that efforts to bring a working a solution to completion can be undervalued and a lot of folks don't understand the cost of the time or the amount of time that it takes.

It makes me hesitate to get completely dependent on node servers for my day to day needs since the node servers tend to be supported by a single resource.  Also if there isn't an ROI for the time, its really easy for me to understand when time doesn't permit to continue developing or enhancing node servers.  Time is definitely precious.

I would like to see a sustainable model for the developers and the node servers.  I know subscription models are frowned on based on some Insteon Hub blowback for the new paid service.  I don't know of a good way to keep these models profitable or at least break even(if thats all the developer wants, but I think you guys should make a profit).

Sorry a bit off topic, but I saw your post and appreciated the transparency.

Bob,

Understood.

You are a gentleman and scholar, thank you for your response.

Above my understanding, but appears one can do local storage by flashing the chip. ESPHome Emporia

Thanks but not really what I'm looking for. Searching Github I saw a mention of PG3 on another persons page so maybe there is hope! The unfortunate part is I have the time and spent many hours looking at node servers and trying to learn to code. I can get the commands here and there but I just don't know how to tie it all together.

@tazman, If you can't wait for a PG3 solution, there is an integration on Home Assistant for Vue.  I don't use HA but I thought I'd try it to see if it worked.  It was pretty easy to setup and it works as advertised.  I created a quick automation to notify my phone when the dryer stopped.   A friend asked if I could create notifications for her washer and dryer and I have been trying to come up with a simple solution.  Rpi and a Vue would do the trick.  As I understand it there is an ISY integration that allows data to flow between ISY and HA.  No expert here, I now have about 60 min of experience with HA!

@tmorse305 thanks for the suggestion I do have it setup on HA but I just can't get behind the way things have to be done in HA. I probably could get it to pass the numbers to Polisy but not really what I want.
