KeviNH Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Any recommendations for Z-wave on/off toggle switches which work with ISY and also can be setup so two switches directly communicate to act like a 3-way switch? We need to add a 3-way switch at the far end of a large room, and with the cost of copper wire today, it's going to cost around a hundred bucks just in materials. Normally I'd do this with Insteon toggles and an Insteon scene, but this location is Z-wave only. Anybody successfully setup a pair of Z-wave toggle switches so they directly control each other instead of requiring a program in the ISY to simulate 3-way switching?
Athlon Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Maybe these? https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/products/zooz-700-series-z-wave-plus-scene-controller-switch-zen32 I don't own these, by the way. I do own some ZEN77's. I'm using two of them as a virtual 3-way by using IoP. 1
peterathans Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Short answer is that there is currently no Polisy support to set up two z-wave switches so they communicate directly and act as a 3-way switch circuit, see this older thread on the subject: I'm hoping that the new Polisy z-wave interface (coming soon!) will support these features, keeping my fingers crossed...

I have read a thread where it is supported in Polisy but not consistently with all devices and confirm it does with my Zooz hardware. I tried this week with Zooz gear and could get it to work with the Polisy off, but it was slow....very slow. And I dont mean a 500 ms slow....Like 10 seconds...Made me think at first it wasn't working. When I powered back up the Polisy it was instant. If this is expected behavior I cant recommend it. I used Basic Scene Ctl 2 on both the responder and the controller. Then used the option selected below "Z-Wave Basic MC" I don't understand the protocol enough to know if I did something wrong or if the slow speed was just how it works...but the controller was 10 feet from the responder. This wasn't a permanent setup, and mainly wanted to test the functionality so I removed the devices from the test scene. I was using a Zooz: Zen71(controller) and Zen77(responder) For the cost of the materials, personally I would recommend "wire in the wall". It would give a real 3 way if you need it and options later. Zooz also has direct wire 3 way switches that only need to replace one switch. The Zooz Zen 77 can do this and there is a non-dimmer version that can work with dumb 3-way switches as well. The dumb switch just cant change the brightness like the Z-Wave

I'm using a program to do so. On: Foyer Light On - [ID 0031][Parent 0001] If 'Foyer Aux' is switched On Or 'Foyer Light' Status is not Off Then Set 'Foyer Light' Fast On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') That being said, the OP asked if it can be done without having to use an ISY. EDIT: 'Foyer Light' in the 'Then' statement is a Scene with the two devices in the 'If' statement in it. Edited August 4, 2022 by Athlon Clarity
KeviNH Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 At home I use a pair of Insteon switches and a scene to do this, the ISY is aware of the state but the switching of the light isn't dependent on a program running, and is nearly instantaneous. But this site doesn't have a PLM. Doing it with a program introduces a dependency I would prefer to avoid.
