admin console (LAN) doesn't load

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I too have been having problems with the Admin Console.  The isy finder finds the isy, but when i click on admin console (LAN) it doesn't load.

I am using Java ver. 8, 32 bit, update 341, on desktop with windows 10.  My isy has firmware 4.9.0.

Please don't tell me to update firmware. I tried ver 5 once and none of my programs worked. Had to revert back to 4.9.0. Also, I went to UD wiki to get latest isy launcher file.

BTW I am able to use Admin console with my laptop which is using Java ver. 8, update 301 and windows 11.

Any Help would be appreciated.

When you downloaded the new version of the ISY finder did you first clear your java cache including checking the box "all installed applications"

I have Java 8  ver 341 on windows 10 and the launcher works without issues.

@NCannata

You can avoid using ISY launcher by downloading admin.jnlp from the ISY and launching it each time instead.  If you ever do upgrade you need to remember to delete admin.jnlp and clear the java cache manually which are some of the things that ISY Launcher helps eliminate the need for.   http://IP.OF.YOUR.ISY/admin.jnlp  Save the file, move it to your desktop.

I have been clearing java cache and checking all installed applications. When I try to open Admin Console either LAN or Cloud, it hangs and can only be shutdown with task manager. However if I try using the Dashboard option , it works. I tried again today with a fresh download of the JNLP file from the wiki page. No luck.

MrBill, the link you provided would not open for me.

Did you use your IP? (change where it says ip.of.your.isy)

The link I provided requires editing..  the capital letters must be replaced with an actual IP address.

I'm not sure what wiki page has a .jnlp file, could you please link that wiki page?

Wheni I use your link with the ip address of my isy. I get a window open with the universal device logo that say"Please keep this window open". . Java 2+ required. Nothing else happens

Ok. Making some progress. Was able to download and run successfully using MrBills  link http://ip.of.your.isy/admin.jnlp.

However, now, once I close app and try to reopen Isy admin console shortcut, I get java application error. "Unable to launch the application". If I clear java cache and open file link from http://ip.of.your.isy/admin.jnlp , it opens again.

Don't know why I can't reopen after closing initial running of file.

This is somewhat “normal” lately….I’ve also had this issue when using the admin download direct from the ISY994. I don’t use that method now, but when I tested a while back also had issues launching it multiple times.

Since you were able to get it to work once then the ISY Launcher  method should work just fine, and would work EACH time you tried to open the admin console.

Let’s look at network and computer issues…do you use VLANs? (Perhaps your ISY and Win10 machine aren’t on same local domain.  Does the “Cloud” option ever load admin console when you tried the ISY Launcher icon?

Win10 and Java 32 bit? Have you tried to remove Java (also using the Java remove tool to be sure ALL old versions of Java are removed)? When you reinstall what browser are you using to install Java? Maybe specifically install the 64 bit version. I’ve not personally seen much difference as I know I have 32 bit installed on one machine and 64 bit on another and both can access ISY without issues, but you might just consider this change.

I would suggest these steps:

  1. Clear Java cache (be sure to select all three boxes in this option dialogue)
  2. remove Java (through windows AND the Java remove all version tools)
  3. DELETE any *.jnlp file you might have been using….look EVERYWHERE! Get rid of any old copies of start.jnlp, admin.jnlp, or any other ISY related .jnlp file)
  4. Install 64bit Java (might be a download process rather than simple click of “get Java” From the Java site. Be sure it installs in the “program files” directory…NOT the “Program Files (x86) directory)
  5. Download fresh “start.jnlp” from the wiki link you have above
  6. run start.jnlp and accept any Java warnings. Make sure it adds the “ISY Launcher” icon to your desktop.
  7. run ISY Launcher from your desktop icon
  8. try LAN option first. If doesn’t work, close and try Cloud option.

Report back your status after trying all above steps.

Include any necessary network information (be sure you can log into your router and see the ISY is an attached device. Make sure your ISY and computer are on the same subnetwork (192.168.1.x or something that the first 3 digits match!).

Icon added to desktop should look like this: (probably without the green check mark though….mine is on desktop and being backed up to OneDrive)
