Need Help after complete Factory Reset of ISY 994i

Hello,

I have been using ISY since 2012 and the last years did not pay too much attention to my versions and my background logs as I handled most of it in Home Assistance. I started noticing that the ISY became more sluggish to the point where I could not even upgrade anymore (running 4.8.0). It throws errors that indicate to me that the file system is full. I remembered that years ago I started a log file to play with the 'amend' function but never deactivated it. I assume this file must be huge by now.

Unfortunately, I can't access the file structure anymore in ISY under CONFIGURATION/NETWORKING/WEB SERVER and it defaults to my own file structure on my desktop (Linux Mint). If I telnet into the ISY and do "LS" it only shows only

[/ *.*]

So I bamboo-stick-hard-reset the ISY for a full factory reset. Right after the rest I telnet in and I do "LS" and I see

[/ *.*]
   TMP         (dir)
   LOG         (dir)
   WEB         (dir)
   CODE       (dir)
   CONF       (dir)
   USER       (dir)

This looks normal. But If I open now an Admin Console (download from 192.xxx.xxx.xxx/we/insteon.jar) it shows an empty screen. Good as well. So far I am happy. Now I go to CONFIGURATION/NETWORKING/WEB SERVER I get the following error:

"Could not open config file to read [/CONF/INSTENG.OPT]"  and

"Could not open file [/CONF/ELKXPRT.XML]"

The file browser window on the left shows the file structure of my desktop. BTW the ISY says up there in the screen Free: 0MB.

Now when I "LS" in telnet I am back to only

[/ *.*]

I am able to add my devices and make them function. But before I do all that I want to upgrade to the latest ISY firmware (5.3.4). When I manually upgrade it says

"Upgrade failed: Failed uploading file (reported file size is invalid)" & [LIB_ERRORS-403]

Automatic updates fail with the same error.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks Brian - I read all that and looked all over the internet before I posted.

@heitjer are you using the IoX launcher (Formerly ISY Launcher) method to access admin console? You mention you’re accessing through some Insteon.jar access. Not sure of that process….really must be an old process. Please read the current release area for the ISY Launcher method discussion

It sounds like your Firmware and UI don’t match.

When you reset the ISY you get a basic Firmware that you then need to manually upgrade to a full hardware (found in current release area).

Specifically follow the steps here - https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Replacing/Formatting_an_SD_Card

Thanks Geddy...

I replaced the SD card and formatted it, another factory-reset and it shows FREE 7131 MB and upgraded to 5.3.4.

I am up and running! First device added. Perfect. I will not bother with my backup as I wanted to do a ground up refresh anyway!

Looks like this was my own stupidity! I let little log files run in the back unattended for too long. They started filling up the SD card until it corrupted. I can not read the old SD with any of my machines.

That's a shame. It's a common issue with SD cards if they're full and still trying to write to it data can corrupt easily.

Glad you got up and running with 5.3.4 so quickly. Good luck adding things and getting things the way you like/want them again.
