MWareman Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Hello, This thread highlighted the issue for me: There are two situations here. 1) When portal is down, but I'm on the local network to Polisy - I cannot connect 2) When Polisy is up and I am on the local network - UD Mobile is ignoring the local wifi and still connecting to and depending on the Portal. This manifests in settings as well. If I click 'Test Local Connection' then I get an error: "There is no local network associated or the Android Device is not on an associated local network...." ..except I am.... The SSID and network name were read from the device and associated with the Polisy. I have confirmed my local connection settings work. If I select "Only use Local Connection" it connects fine - but won't work when I leave the house (I had to do this last night when the portal was down) Possible to find out why local network detection is not working on Android? Thank you!

Thank you! Basically same issue for me... I don't run polisy... but UD Mobile on Android prefers cloud over local, so I have to set 'only use local connection' but when (not if) the portal drops, I can't get into ud mobile to change it to this... And I need it unset normally, to control my house when away from home... HUGE Problem, please fix...
mmb Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Local connection using UD Mobile did not work at all for me using an iPhone during the portal outage. It seemed like the Portal connection was interfering with the local connection. I don’t have remote settings configured as I use a vpn. My finger on the light switch did work thankfully. : )
Javi Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Hi All, Portal should be back up now. @MWareman and @johnstonf, With regards to local connections first be sure the app has location permission, so be sure app and and global location settings are enabled: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=UD_Mobile#Local_Connections_and_Local_VPN In local connection settings is there a network listed in System Network Relations Window (Settings Tab > Systems > Your System > Local Connection Settings)? 12 minutes ago, mmb said: Local connection using UD Mobile did not work at all for me using an iPhone during the portal outage. Strange thing is I was never prompted to grant location permission. I clicked to add my home Wifi network and it discovered it without having location permission and without prompting for the permission so maybe there is something wrong with detecting when the permission has not been granted and prompting the user for it. I have granted the permission now and will test when I get home.

Android will not give apps SSID unless it has precise location permission. 1
mmb Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Last question for me Javi, are these messages expected? It was during a refresh and the Portal was being restored. Not a big deal, just curious.

Not a big deal, just curious. The error shows the ISY is not online in Portal and portal is reachable. The app will retry connections after 3 seconds of an error and continue until a connection is established or app is closed. If portal is partially offline that could be the cause. I believe the next version of the app has a better error message or at least only shows text between <info> tags.

So, I think the main issue is the app does not appear to be properly asking for the permission if it does not have it.

I checked mine, and yes, they were wrong, and I don't remember being asked (or told) what to do... I have the standard two networks 2.4 and 5G SSIDs, and some of my devices had the 2.4 (I use the 5G so had to add now), and couple were just wonky stuff. Can these be included in backup/export-import? (Mistake phone to have to do manually each device) I imagine a ton of people don't have this configured properly and don't even know it. Thanks! Fred

Jimbo.Automates Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I had this issue now after moving to a new phone and restoring backup. But even after giving permission the test never says success?Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk

But even after giving permission the test never says success? Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk It will be improved in the future. Maybe only granted use once permission. Unlike iOS, Android does not let developers know when this is the case. An Easy test is to click the Wi-Fi network from your screenshot. Then click the populate button on the next screen. If the app can read Wi-Fi networks, it will populate without prompt.

Javi Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Thanks @Jimbo.Automates, didn't realize it was message was empty, should have showed invalid credentials. Replicated similar issues on failure. Added issue https://github.com/UniversalDevicesInc/UD-Mobile-Android/issues/40 App's Finder Classes were just rebuilt to accommodate onboarding of eisy, so it's the likely issue. 1
