TheA2Z Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 (edited) I got my Eisy, PLM kit, and zMatter comes today. As on most forums it is mostly folks posting with problems they are having. I was wondering if anyone with all my items in the title got their Eisy fully setup and functioning? Before I blow a weekend setting up, I want to make sure kinks are worked out. My plan is to backup and restore my ISY config and programs and restore to eisy. Dont currently have Polisy, but I know I will need to setup node server for my ELK alarm. I plan to do clean install of all zwave devices (alot of them). ISY has gotten slow over years as I added zwave devices. Also have some rogue devices that I cant clear/ forget. Best to start clean for me. Interested from you success stories are there any tips or tricks you encountered on your road to success. How long do you think it took you to setup completely? If there are no complete success stories, Ill probably hold off a few weeks to install. As much as I love to tinker on stuff like this, just dont have time right now. Most of the issues you're seeing are from migrations. A completely clean install should be ok. I set one of my polisys up from scratch and imported the other to see the difference. I felt a new install was easier since I had some gotcha moments with importing. Zwave may be an issue but would most likely come down to what devices your have, your particular setup, knowledge and skill. Since you're not used to the elk Node Server, that may also be an issue. Since you say you don't have the time, that should be your own clue not to attempt things. Regardless of ease of use, you can still have gotchas. It's best to wait until you can focus on setting things up without sharing over it Edited December 30, 2022 by lilyoyo1

I have been in IT and avionics repair for almost 30 years. I get your point as things never go as smoothly as planned. However, there is a difference between bleeding edge new tech that has to have HW and OS kinks worked out compared to a stable system where you have a flukey zwave device install or program debugging that is kicking your butt that you have to try things, back out, and try again. Good to hear you got your polisys working as that is a good to hear that. I was interested in hearing responses from folks that may have a similar ISY install as me and that they were able to get their eisy setup this past week. I know eisy is new and kinks will need to be ironed out. Just would like to hear some success stories with similar setup.

It's best to wait until you can focus on setting things up without sharing over it I completely agree- I tested a few devices as a "new install" and it was flawless (ish). When I migrated my 50+ insteon ISY backup I completely hosed it. @Michel Kohanimworked late into the night on my system and ironed out whatever bugs / kinks and I'm now thrilled to have my existing scenes now control a mix of Insteon and MagicHome lights. This is the holy grail for me - I am now able to really integrate with other home automation devices beyond the insteon world!!! 1

There are some Z-Wave issues that need to be resolved, even with a clean install. There are a few devices on my network (I've done both the migration and have factory reset the ZMatter dongle and excluded/included my Z-Wave devices) that don't work as they did under the three previous Z-Wave dongles (300 series, 500 series and Zooz 700 series). Notably, status isn't reported correctly (or at all, in some devices) with the ZMatter dongle. @Chris Jahn indicated that the ZMatter dongle is strict about following the Z-Wave specifications, and some devices vary from the specifications. I have motion sensors and garage door openers that don't report status. In the case of the motion sensors, the dongle receives the notification of motion, but it doesn't process the message and update the status, so it's not actionable in programs. I will say that the range of the ZMatter dongle is much improved, and the speed in which devices react to commands is fast, maybe Insteon fast. 1 hour ago, TheA2Z said: I was interested in hearing responses from folks that may have a similar ISY install as me and that they were able to get their eisy setup this past week. I'm running 5.5.2 on a Polisy Pro. I'll get an eisy after the first of the year.

Fixing this is the focus of our next build 1
