What is the correct sequence of steps to install the USB-ZWave+Matter?

eisy IoX at 5.5.2 .  I’m not interested in a migration at this time.  I just want a fresh clean slate.  I have installed my USB-ZWaveMatter and clicking on (or mouseing over) the Z-Wave menu option displays “Z-wave dongle not responding.”  If I press “Migrate to ZMatter Z-wave” the eisy hangs in “System Busy.”  The USB-Matter has been plugged in for days, both IoX has been restarted and Reboot has been fired multiple times, but the Z-Wave menu option still displays “Z-wave dongle not responding.”  What are the proper steps, one by one, to install the USB-Zwave/Zigbee/Matter device and get it online, I.E.(example):

1.       Shutdown the esiy.

2.       Install the USB-ZWave+Matter.

3.       Power on the eisy.

4.       Wait a minute

5.       Open the admin console.

6.       Check Z-Wave Support

7.        Restart IoX.

8.       Choose the Z-Wave menu option

9.       …..

THIS ABOVE IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE, NOT A SOLUTION.

Could this be a bad USB: Z-Wave+ & Matter module?

Can I check this from the Unix shell somehow?

I'll be interested to see if there is an answer to this as I'm experiencing the same issue of “Z-wave dongle not responding.” However, in my case it worked fine the first time, then after powering down and restarting it gave the error message.

I've opened a support ticket but they marked it as 'Low priority' which suggests that I won't get a response anytime soon.

Edit: To add to this, I've also disabled the Z-Wave option, done a factory reset on the eisy|home, and re-enabled Z-Wave support with no change.

I think what you are missing after you check the Z-Wave support and restart you have to migrate to the matter board for it to show up in the menu.

@tazmanWhen I Migrate to Matter is when it gets hung up in the System Busy loop.  Chris wrote me and said this is expected to be fixed in the next release.  But I'm stuck at a no-go currently.

In hopes of saving others bit of time, these are the steps I've taken so far:

  • Disabled Z-Wave support and re-enabled the Z-Wave Support (no change)
  • Done a factory reset on the Eisy Home and re-enabled the Z-Wave Support (no change)
  • Done a factory reset on the Eisy Home, moved the dongle to another USB port and re-enabled the Z-Wave Support (no change)

Also looks like my support ticket was closed with no explanation.

As suggested by @tazman, your next step would be to choose "migrate...." in the configuration tab.  I have the Polisy, not the EISY, but I had the same experience and "dongle not responding" message.  UD responded to my ticket with the same advice.

Unfortunately, I understand that the migration process is still having growing pains so, if you plan to migrate in the future, my best guess is to hole off.  If your intention is to start with a fresh z-wave installation, I would go ahead a choose the migrate option>>>use zwave dongle without migration.

Unfortunately, I have not seen these instructions (regarding the migrate option) in the wiki, so I suspect this will be an ongoing issue.

@oberkcThanks for the guidance. I did try that route as well and, same as @GJ Software Products, it just drops into a loop. The only way I've been able to get out of that loop is a factory reset. So as the product says: ZMatter USB (beta)... but IMO it wasn't quite ready for customer beta testing. UDI may have rolled out a bit early. Good news is that I have my ISY994i and will continue to run that until the eisy|home and ZMatter is working.

I am waiting as well.  I dont have an immediate need to move from the -994 at this point, so until that changes or I am more confident that the zwave migration path is less rocky, I will stay with the trusty ISY.

It appears the wise thing to do was to wait. I started in not know there was an issue with the zwave migration. As it's been said, my eisy is stuck in a busy loop and nothing seems to work because of this. Is there any work around so at least the Insteon part of my home will work?

@IPapp The only way I was able to get out of that loop was to do a factory reset. Once that was done, re-added Insteon support and that works fine. Just need to stick with Insteon for now.

@DavidV Thankfully I was not too far down the rabbit hole that I just powered up my trusty 994 and things are back to normal. I will just wait for an update that shows the issue resolved. :-)

Well to be fair it does literally say "BETA" on the product then you buy it. I'm going to wait for the next update before proceeding with Z-Wave at the office location. Too late for the home location but it will just have to wait for further testing on my side at home as soon as a box of Z-Wave Scene Controls arrives.

Side Note: Antenna Locations | There is a Z-Wave - ZigBeee/Matter install instruction for their discontinued ISY box that refer to one antenna having a yellow band for Z-Wave while the other has a red band for ZigBee/Matter. HOWEVER both of mine came with Yellow and Purple. Purple is now ZigBee/Matter on their new USB dongle.

Looks like the 5.5.3 update resolved the issue. ZWave using the ZMatter Z-wave dongle seems to be working well for me now.

Oh without a doubt on the Beta version. However I wish I had dove into the form to see what pitfalls I may experience prior to setting everything up. The update to 5.5.3 appears to have fixed things. I wanted to use it for a week or so and see how it's been. The only issue I've had is nodes missing on a ZEN16 module and it seems that some of the configuration parameters won't push to certain devices.
