My ISY994i may have died

I was doing some work on my network and had to unplug my ISY.  After plugging it back in, it didn’t come up.  I’m getting a green power light, but nothing else.  Ethernet lights don’t blink and I can’t ping the unit.  On top of all that, it happened an hour before I had to leave for a week long trip and my poor family is left at home with no home automation (gasp, the horror!).

I’m not in a position to do much diagnosing, but I’m guessing it’s dead and I may need to move to a the latest eisy.  To help get a sense of what I’m in for…

1. If anyone has some diagnostic suggestions, please provide.

2. While have a backup of my system, my unit is still on v4.9.0.  From what I’ve been reading, I would need to have been on version 5 to migrate.  Is there any option to migrate with v4.9.0?

Thanks.

Here is the light troubleshooting section from the wiki: Front Panel LEDs/Lights

Boot up sequence:

Power, RX&TX, momentary blink of Memory/RX and TX, and then Power only

Error light and Memory light blinking simultaneously: ISY is not able to get on the network. Please ensure:

The Network jack on the back of ISY is connected to your router

The lights on the Network jack have one steady on and the other one blinking. If not, check cable and connectivity to the router

Your router provides DHCP

There are no other devices on the network with the same IP address (IP Conflict)

If you have configured your ISY to use DHCP, then you will have to search your network for devices that might be in the same DHCP range as your router is providing

If you have configured your ISY with a static IP address, and as long as you have a good backup, you can Factory Reset your ISY and then restore a good backup (File | Restore ISY). Once prompted to change the network settings, choose No

Only Error light blinking: ISY cannot communicate with the SD Card. Please ensure:

The micro SD Card (on the front) is seated properly. Unplug ISY, remove the rubber cap, using a sharp object, push the micro SD Card in so that it pops out. Push it back in so it clicks in. Apply power to ISY

If reseating the micro SD Card does not work, you probably have a defective SD Card. Please consult Replacing/Formatting SD Card

You can have a family member unplug power, wait, and plug it in again, followed by checking the lights against the guide.

You can also try a new power supply, weak ones do some strange things.

Beyond what others above have all helped out as troubleshooting methods...if it is a power supply here's the info

From the Wiki - "You can try any power supply that outputs anywhere between 5 volt and 30 volts, center positive, 2mm barrel connector"

No, because of the changes from 4.x to 5.x the only way to migrate is from the 5.x branch. If you have Z-Wave installed on the ISY994 you need to be careful which version of 5.x you would upgrade to.

Presuming that you get the ISY994 operational again upgrading might be in your future. But it takes a little bit of effort so don't attempt it randomly and without reading all the directions and posts about the update first.

Highest priority is getting the current device operational again. Then you can consider updates and new hardware.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input above.  I’m back from my trip and was able to  unplug the unit leave it off overnight, then plug it back in.  Unfortunately, just got the power LED, nothing else.   So at this point, I think it’s toast.  Looks like I’m going to have to get something new to manage my 80+ Insteon device network.  My install has been rock solid for over 10 years and  I haven’t paid any attention to what’s new.  Is the eisy a direct replacement for the isy994i?  My PLM is a 2413S any issue there?  (yes, I need to do some research and catch up, but hoping for a quick jump start here).

Only the power led on indicates the ISY is idle. Do you have the solid network light on in the rear?

@wswartz

Looking for something else, I found this in the wiki:

Only Power Light Is On:

Most probably power supply related. You can try any power supply that outputs anywhere between 5 volt and 30 volts, center positive, 2mm barrel connector

It was the power supply.  I was able to get another one and the ISY came up with no issues.  Thanks to everyone here for your suggestions and support!

Glad you got it working.
