New feature: UD Communications & System notifications

Recommended Posts

UD Mobile now features 2 new notification options. Please review the notifications settings by clicking the gear icon at the top right of the "Notifications" tab.

UD Communications

To receive Universal Devices communications, make sure that the Group "UD Communications" has at least one phone active.

System notifications

On Monday April 3rd, 8 AM Pacific time, we will turn on System notifications. Whenever an ISY/Polisy/eisy connects or disconnects from Portal, you will receive a notification on all phones active in the group "System notifications".

We recommend that you review your notification settings so that the relevant phones receive these notifications.

Please see screenshot.  The description is not helpful so I poked around a bit to see if I could get identifiable information about the device but couldn't figure it out.

Is there some way that I am missing, or should I send test messages to figure out which device is which?

Thank you.

Test message is the way to go.

After sending a test notification, when you know who the phone belongs to, click on the name to change the name to something meaningful.

Due to a recent iOS update we now only receive the Mobile device type and no longer receive the name given by the user. You can change the device names in Notification settings along with sending a test notification to a single device.

When this went live I got more than 15 offline/online notifications (offline and then 5 seconds online) in a 2 hour period. Checked my ISY, the logs and wifi and found no issues. I had to turn off the notifications. While I may have an issue, and I will further look at, but I think it would a better tool if it was offline for more than say 10 minutes to send a notification to eliminate notifications that may not indicate a problem.

I think the notifications are simply if the device (IoX) isn't registered with the Portal in some method. So it could have been fine locally and the wifi could have been fine, but there could have been something funky between the device and the portal.

I would suggest opening a support ticket. Include your UUID and if you still have the time that those notifications came in perhaps it can be checked in some logs with UDI to see if something in fact was in error with your device.

What device are you using? What IoX firmware are you running?

Good point about possibly having a wait period. I'd include that suggestion in your support ticket.

From 3:16 am to 6:12 am I received 2 offline messages and 2 online messages. Which raises the question:

@bmercier& @Javi

1. How do we know from the notification if there is an issue with UD's Service or on our end?

2. Does UD have or intend to relatively soon setup an UD Service status (all services are up or certain services are down) link?

3. I opened UD Mobile and reviewed and acknowledged the notification, however, the notification did not disappear from my phone. From my phone, I had to click on each and every notification itself, allow it to open UD Mobile, and then close out & go back and repeat for the remainder of the notifications.

Not sure that is the best approach to clearing the notifications, especially if UD service goes down and we receive a lot of notifications. Why doesn't acknowledgement of the notification in UD Mobile clear the phone notification?

Phone is Samsung Galaxy S20+

Edit: Received another set of offline/online at 9:32 am & 9:36 am.

Your ISY definitely have an issue. I know a few ISY keep connecting/disconnecting continuously. Please open a ticket so it is investigated further.

FYI, when you login to portal, hover the mouse on the green dot. This will tell you the las connection time. This may be useful while you disable the notifications.

Whenever there is a maintenance or a known problem, you will see a post on the forum under UD Portal. Maintenances are pinned for a while.

That is not overly helpful if you are remote and not near a computer. Isn't that the benefit of UD Mobile?

When starting a maintenance, you should also receive a notification, as long as UD Communications are enabled.

@bmercier I have a horrible Comcastic cable connection.  I had a point of Comcast stutter last night that where I got about 5 rapid messages that the portal was online/offline etc.

I also have multiple ISY's at this point... identifying them by UUID isn't the best choice, Alias from the portal screen would be a better choice.

When you have multiple devices (ISY-Polisy-eisy) across multiple locations, is there away to disable one unit from reporting offline?

I appear to have an ISY at a remote site that is bouncing between offline-online. In UD Mobile I have turned off System Status for that device, but I am still receiving the notifications.

Currently, no. It's an all or nothing.

Are you saying that in UD Mobile, under Notifications, you turned off System Notifications for your phone, and you still receive  the notifications?

Will look into adding this feature.

I'm saying, in UD Mobile, under Settings - Systems - system in question - System Status is set to disable.

I also disabled Use ISY Portal for remote connections from the same menu.

This particular system is a legacy device that I haven't turned off yet because it is not local. It is not the current production unit for that location.

When you have multiple device at different locations, having control over if it should be monitored in necessary.

Hi Dennis,

Settings>Systems>Your-System>Disabled only disables subscription startup in UDM.  Is this system listed on your Portal Account?  If it is not then there should be no notifications about connect or disconnect.  If it is listed but there is no subscription then remove from portal.

starting yesterday I've been receiving a flood of UD Mobile notifications about ISY going offline and online. I think it's because my ISY is overloaded and can't respond fast enough. Hopefully when I migrate off 994 that will help but I would like to suggest a longer delay in being notified that ISY is offline.

Also, I tried to turn off notifications in app but it kept turning itself back on. I had to disable notifications in iPhone settings.
