Advice on Tackling the Migration

Howdy.  I currently have an ISY with the RJ45 Serial PLM, and the newest upgraded Z-Wave module.  My network is a healthy mix of Insteon & Z-Wave.

I have also purchased an eisy, a Z-Matter/Z-Wave USB Dongle, and one of the NEW Insteon USB PLMs.

My plan for migration is as follows...

  1. Create backup from existing setup, and store in safe place.
  2. Physically disconnect the ISY & old PLM
  3. Physically connect the eisy, Z-USB Dongle, and the USB PLM.  Perform whatever initial steps are recommended to get it on my network.
  4. Run any recommended updates (packages, etc).
  5. Restore the backup from the ISY to the eisy.
  6. Perform a PLM Update to "notify" all my Insteon devices.

What do people think about that?  Any "gotchas" that folks have run into?  Anyone who's already done the swap, how long did it take?

Thanks in advance!

Before beginning the migration also make sure your eisy is up to date with the latest firmowhich is version 5.6.0. Make sure you follow the . migration instructions.

In retrospect, my migration (to polisy, not easy) went mostly well, though it was a bit of work.  The only problem I continue to have is that z-wave motion and door sensor no longer work in my system.  I had to replace them with Insteon.

Woah... This would be a non-starter for me...  What brand of Motion & Door Sensors are you using??

Before migrating to new eisy with USB Insteon PLM I wish to keep the old isy944i and serial Insteon PLM in parallel, however after successfully installing eisy using a back up from isy994i l started to see that the old isy994i devices are not working any more, not sure why one cannot have these two setups in parallel?

@SSS

You can't have two controllers running in parallel. A device can only be linked to one controller at any one time.

When you migrated to the eisy the address of the new USB PLM replaced the serial PLM address in all of your devices.

I don't recall with great confidence, but I can tell you I got them at Lowe's and they were likely the GE brand that they used to carry.

Ok, that's good info.  So it wasn't Aeotec Z-Wave stuff...  My stuff is exclusively that.

No, most certainly.

The Multisensor 6 is fully compatible with the Zmatter board. I tried the Multisensor 7 and had issues including it, so I'm staying with the MS6

When you use the zmatter board with the MS6 the humidity displays in a separate node so you may have to modify any programs that use humidity.

Based on my migration experience which is in another post, I would recommend that before shutting down the old ISY, go into Tools - Diagnostics and look at the existing PLM links especially the count and make a note of it. When you get to step 5 on the EISY, do Tools - Diagnostics - PLM Info/status and make sure it says connected before performing step 6. You can use the Tools - Diagnostics - Event viewer while it is writing the link table to the PLM to see progress. When Step 6 is done, again do Tools - Dianostics and verify that the link count on the new PLM is the same as you had on the old one.

PLM link counts can vary due to system activity and other factors. You most likely won't see the same count between the ISY and the EISY

OK. So...  I'm most of the way through the migration (it's doing the PLM piece now for the Insteon Devices).

MANY of my Aeotec Z-Wave Devices remained in "Placeholder" status, because they're all battery operated.  Is there a trick to getting these devices to come online, or am I going to have to visit EVERY one and "unlink" / "link" tap dance to bring them back?

Second...  And I can't believe I can't really find a solution or link to this explaining the answer...  Why does the LOCATION setting not allow a negative longitude?

Last (for now)...  There are MANY settings that don't actually transfer over.  SMTP settings, IP Port settings...  This really should be documented better, you guys have had a LOT of time to get this right...

You will have to manually wake up each of your battery-operated devices, in order to include/link them, as they go to sleep in order to preserve the battery.

Your location should populate without any user input, if not there's a drop down menu.

During migration the SMTP settings go to "default", you'll have to manually enter any custom settings.

There's not a drop-down, there's a selection, and the nearest city is 100 miles from me.  I want to use my lat/long.  Why can't I use the correct lat/long?

As far as I know it's never been negative in admin console. It should be accurate without using the negative.
