GregE Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Hey all, Like the title says I am trying to add a zwave switch to my ISY994. It's running v5.3.1 and I have the zwave module. I had an Insteon on off switch stop working so wanted to replace it with a zwave. I've tried the Enbrighten and the Zooz 700 switch and can't get the ISY to recognize either. I have the same Zooz switch in the same bathroom running some lights by my mirrors so I expected it to not have any issues. I've tried excluding it first and am at a loss of what else to try. So when I click add a zwave device, I get the device discovery window and also a window showing the IoX Finder which is kind of weird I thought. I press on the switch like the instructions say but nothing ever finds my switch. I even tried it using UD Mobile on my phone but also no luck. I've even thought about moving to Eisy but UD shows it out of stock. Any suggestions? Thanks Greg

There are two different Z-wave modules that were sold for 994... the 300 Series Z-wave board, reports z-wave version 4.55.00 in the admin console under Z-wave > Z-Wave version, Also has a Blue Led on the back of the ISY near Port A-- If it's not lit up it's hard to tell it's a Blue LED unless your shining your phone flashlight on it. This board is not compatible with firmware beyond V 5.0.16V. If you have this board you must downgrade the firmware to 5.0.16C. the 500 Series board reports version 6.81.00 or something close to that in the admin console under Z-wave > Z-Wave version. It does not have a blue LED. If that's the case please Upgrade your firmware to V 5.3.4. This is an easy upgrade from 5.3.1... just backup and then load the new firmware file, the ISY will reboot there should be no other issues. Please let us know which z-wave board you have. I doubt eisy will be out of stock for very long.... sales@universal-devices.com can likely predict when the will return to stock. 1
GregE Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 I have 6.82.01 so I will do the upgrade tonight and see if that helps. Figured I'm better to do it at home than remotely. Thanks

GregE Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 So did the update but still not able to add my zwave switch. 😪
Techman Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 @GregE Are your ISY firmware and UI the same version? Do you have other Zwave devices installed? What is the distance between the Zwave device you're trying to install and your ISY?
GregE Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 Firmware and UI are the same version. Yes other Zwave devices. I'm trying to install another switch like one that I already have. That switch is about 5 feet away. The ISY is in the basement.
Techman Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 (edited) The ISY Zwave 500 series dongle has an effective range of about 20 feet. If the other switch is working and it's only 5 feet away from the one you're trying to install then it shouldn't be a problem. All line powered Zwave devices also act as repeaters. All you should have to do is put your new swirch into the linking mode, and then open the Zwave menu on the ISY and click on include. Edited July 13, 2023 by Techman

All must support Network wide inclusion. The op is better off bring it close to the isy to add, moving it to its final location and then choosing update neighbors
GregE Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 I can give that a try but probably not until this Sunday. Need to load up a trailer and take my daughter's stuff for her apt to her.
GregE Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 Made me a cord so I could add it to my network closer to the ISY and easily.

DennisC Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I would also add to what has been discussed: Reboot ISY before trying again. Exclude 2 times before trying to include. If that doesn't work, try factory resetting your switch and then excluding before adding.
GregE Posted July 18, 2023 Author Posted July 18, 2023 I got it to connect bringing it closer to the ISY with my setup cord but it was still acting weird once I put it in it's location so I took it out and moved another switch that was already on my system to that location. I'm going to return this one to Amazon as defective and get a replacement and try again. 1
