gschoffstall Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 I just got my new EISY and I just recovered, thanks guys, operation on my ISY99Ir. I wanted to move slowly in swinging over to the EISY. Is that even possible, or do I have to rip the bandaid off and start over? I have a good ISY994Ir backup, but I wanted to learn more before committing fully. I did go for the Zigby/Zwave module, but as yet have no compatable hardware for it. Thanks for any suggestions.

There is no easy way to partially upgrade, however, UD does have a migration path depending on your current system and firmware. There is no partial migration. You just set aside a few hours and do it. Of course if things go south on you and you are using the same PLM, you can quickly go back to the 99ir. Just plug the plm back in to the 99ir and reboot. Question, how are you accessing your 99ir? I am still using it as an ir receiver. Last I logged on about a year ago all was fine, but now I am unable as Java refuses to run the file because of expired certificate. 1

As @DennisC and @apostolakisl mention there's no good way to have them running together. Insteon devices can only have one controller. So unless you have 2 PLM and put some devices on one system and some on another you wouldn't be able to run both devices to control the Insteon you have currently have in place. That's where the migration comes into play. If you are only running Insteon currently the migration is very straight forward and easy. Quite possibly without issue you wouldn't even know you made the change. So you're not "starting over". You're able to migrate the devices/setup from the ISY994 (as long as you're using firmware 5.3.4), and since you say you don't have any z-wave currently you more than likely are, or could/should be running 5.3.4 on the ISY994. I bought the new EISY because the recovery of my ISY994Ir was in doubt - mostly because of my missteps in troubleshooting. And the fact that UD doesn't really want to deal with the older devices any longer. Then there was the attraction of Zwave. From some posts, it seems that path may be a little shaky yet. But I did get the Zwave module in case it proves better than Insteon for range. That said, I may just run the 994Ir until it really dies, keeping the firmware up to date (which may be a moot point if they decide that's the end anyway). When it does, you've given me the tools to migrate. Is there an issue with going back to the ISY99Ir if I wanted to set up the EISY to make sure the new hardware works properly? To answer apostolakisl, my 994Ir is hardwired to my router and I talk to it over wifi. I bought the IR version, but never used the IR. Thanks for asking.
