Motion Sensor and Variable setting

Recommended Posts

On a related issue, my insteon motion sensor detects the presence of a car in my garage and via a program, a state variable is set to 1.  When the sensor times out, the variable resets to 0, which is not desired.  Do I use a scene or change the motion sensor to "report on" only?

As per Techman above, you can select an option to send On only.

However, this comes with a caveat on the Insteon MS IIs. I find I need to set the timeout on the MS quit short, as that timer is used for both time off and time to re-enable sensing.

IOW...once the MS timer times out, the MS becomes blind until it stops seeing motion plus the timeout time set. With a long time set, there will be no lights as long as something moves during that time period, plus the timer time. With constant movement, the On signal, and lights, will never come back on.

Yes, it is a design bug in the MS II, that was never fixed, IMHO. This was reported to the new Insteon company but hasn't seemed to have been corrected, that I have heard.

@SHM split out from where you or originally posted since it's really a different issue (and specific to your issue). This way it allows YOU to get the help for YOUR issue. Since the other thread had a solution (that didn't apply to your issue) it's better to have started a new topic to get help and find a solution that works for you.

Would you post the program that's setting the variable? Do you have just one program that is set to adjust the variable on motion and again when it times out? What is your program that is setting the variable back to 0?

What are you attempting to do with the variables?
