Guy Lavoie Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) This is a strange problem that showed up yesterday evening. I can't say if it's related to the minor IoX update that was also released and installed yesterday. So far it appears like this: 1- I get a java socket connection error if I try to send on/off commands to a X10 device. Only the first time. Then it just seems to ignore the commands. But commands to Insteon devices works fine. 2- After the above problem occurs, the following admin console top level choices no longer work: Link Management, Tools, and Help. 3- If I click on Network or IoX from the Main menu, the device list is blank. But I can still view individual devices ok. As part of troubleshooting this, I installed the latest Java update, and replaced the PLM (following the eisy power off first procedure, etc). That all worked fine, but the problem remains the same. It all seems ok until I try to send a X10 command. Closing the admin console and logging back in "fixes" items 2 and 3 above, as long as I don't try to send a X10 command. The same thing seems to happen if I try to send a X10 command by a program (by setting a test variable to trigger it). Edited October 4 by Guy Lavoie Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 After a while, the admin console just logs me out, saying IoX restarted. Any hints? Quote
Geddy Posted October 4 Posted October 4 6 hours ago, Guy Lavoie said: minor IoX update that was also released and installed yesterday First off...what update? There's been no release mention of updates. Sometimes I think UD might have releases they are testing, but might be "in the wild" if/when people randomly check for updates. Would you try this site: https://eisy.local:8443/WEB/sysconfig.txt (might need to replace "eisy.local" with the ip address of your eisy. Be sure to click advanced if you get a warning that the site isn't secure and proceed to the site). What is your version of: UDX (shown near the top) IoX (several lines down - look for "isy-#.#.#" pg3x (just over half way down the page look for pg3x-#.#.#) It's possible that UD was getting a release ready and put it out for testing and you picked up the test. It might be buggy. This just an assumption/possiblity (has happened in the (distant) past). You might be best off with a support ticket. Might not get a reply right away or over the weekend, but probably the quickest and sure way to get to the bottom of the issue. Please report back the resolution so it might help others. I see another post of somebody with an eisy that keeps rebooting. Quote
Techman Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I think UDX was updated to 3.6.2.7. Not sure what the prior version was. You can check your current version using this link (assuming your on an eisy). Let me know if you have a different version. eisy.local:8443/WEB/sysconfig.txt Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Thanks guys. I'm getting these numbers: UDX 3.5.8 Version : 5.8.4_1 Installed on : Thu Oct 3 12:52:59 2024 EDT (it's the "_1" that caught my eye when the upgrade notification appeared, glad it wasn't just my imagination...) Pg3X 3.2.27 If I just leave the admin console running and go away, it's frozen when I return an hour later. I have to kill it using the windows task manager. Quote
Techman Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It might be a Java issue. Try clearing your Java cache, be sure to check all 3 boxes, then download the current IoX Launcher from here: https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp Nor sure where the 5.8.4_1 came from unless it was just released on the day you updated. My system is current and only shows 5.8.4 Are you on Windows or Mac? PG3x 3.2.27 is the current version. Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted October 5 Author Posted October 5 Ok just tried all that. Cleared java cache, reinstalled launcher. Same problem. If I try to turn on a X10 device, I get a window that says: Socket Open Failed java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information Then about a minute later, another window pops up asking me to log into admin again, asking for user id and password. Looks like I'm really stuck. The origin of that 5.8.4_1 update is really mysterious. It popped up as a "needed update" when I launched UD mobile on Thursday, at the time you see the update. I'm guessing that this is the probable source of my problems, and I wonder why I'm the only one who got this update. Is there a provision to roll back updates? I haven't found anything. 1 Quote
rwkmann Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I'm having identical issues the Guy is having. Has anyone asked UD about it? Quote
Solution Guy Lavoie Posted October 6 Author Solution Posted October 6 A fix has been issued. try the following procedure to install it: Please reboot using the following method: 1. Press/hold power button -> red 2. Click again -> blue Everything working again. 1 Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 I asked UD about how that worked. It turns out that when you restart your eisy this way, it connects over the web to look for updates or anything that is ideally performed from a cold start (kind of like looking in AUTOEXEC.BAT in good ole DOS). This capability was used by UD to roll back the update. Quote
xlurkr Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Is there a comparable procedure for Polisy? I'm not currently having a problem, but I'd like to know anyway just in case. -Tom Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 You'd have to ask that one directly to UD support. Quote
