can you provide a link to the filter you got, and Price for unit and install?

NCSTATE1978 on page 4 of this disccussion gives an image of the Enphase filter that solved his issues, which were the same as ours (blinking and communication lag)..

@NCSTATE78 I know it sounds like I am stalking you, but you appear to have solved the problems that I am also experiencing.

Currently, my installer is recommedning a Gapped Ferrite (65 A) filter on 4 lines. If I recall correctly, this was a "solution" that sort of worked, but not completely.

Is there an way for my installer to contact your installer to discus your specific installation to see if we are similar. I wish I knew of a way to Private Mesaage you so I could give you my email address so we could exchange the information that would better ID us for the installer communicaiton.

Thanks

You can give it a try. My installer missed installing the ferrite cores that come with (and are placed inside) the powerwall3. They installed those and that did not help with insteon. The filters you referenced aren't the same, but are similar to those that tesla provides, so while I don't have experience with those specifically, Ferrite cores in general didn't make a difference for me.

The service manager that helped me with this issue no longer works for my installer and without a direct contact, it's not likely you'll get very far without hiring them to service your system.

You can try the ferrite cores, but if those don't work, as I mentioned before, I can tell you that the filter I posted above worked for me.

@jkraus I did a little Google search using RPC1508-64. Several good hits. The Enphase page gave me a price around $420. There were some imdependent sources that were around $350 and EBay source in the $230 range. Obviously, there were would be an installation charge and electricians are not cheap.

@NCSTATE78

Thanks.

Strange that my installer (who does not have a forum id/pw) can no longer see this thread.

I thought about installing a filter to resolve my communication issues, but my installer refuses to do this. They claim that Tesla has told them it will void any and all warranties. Anyone else hear this?

No. One of the engineers with my installer has been working with Tesla on this very issue. He, along with Tesla, developed a Ferrite Core, similar to one discussed in this thread. They are familar with the Enphase In-Line filter that was the solution for NCSTATE1978. Right now, they are working on estimates for both solutions. I want to know the difference in the labor and other materials since they did say they would refund the cost of the Ferrite Cores if those did not work. They are leaning towards the Ferrite Core since it has been successful in a couple of other installs. However, I do not believe the other installs had INSTEON or EISY as part of the environment. Just dimmer switches.

As far as I can tell, Tesla is aware of the issues and has not said anyhting about voiding the warranty.

I've landed here after searching about Powerwall 3, Insteon, and flickering. My Powerwall was installed a couple of months ago and I've seen comm. issues and flickering since. The comm issues are minor esp. compared to the flickering. I'm not sure which is the bigger stress'r: all the flickering or a family member who wants me to get Tesla back here to yank out the PW3 and restore things to they way they were.

I contacted Tesla Energy and after five or six attempts (using their online support) I eventually called and spoke to someone. Long story short they told me the Insteon devices are not compatible with the Powerwall and that I should go buy Lutron dimmers. Not exactly what I wanted to hear.

I've installed many Insteon devices over the years and found their system handy especially when coupled with the automation features of the EISY + PLM. I don't want to give that up however I am willing to put in some money to replace problematic Insteon dimmers esp. if I can quiet down some of the flickering and noise. I've read all posts in this thread (probably twice) but I only know EISY+Insteon+PLM. Some posts have mentioned dimmer devices by other vendors that use other protocols (ZWave/Zigbee/Matter) but I'm not clear: do these work with EISY and can I control them from various Insteon devices? Is the PLM sufficient to talk to these? I'd like to continue to have my Insteon keypad buttons turn on and off some of the dimmers I'd need to replace, would that still work (I've now read too many search results but somewhere there was mention that ZWave devices don't work with scenes)? When I look at one of the vendors (INovelli) their web site does not mention UD EISY as a compatible controller (in fact their AI-bot says it is not supported).

Thanks. Trying to get a handle on how big an expense solving this flickering issue could be. Seems like the easier battle to win esp. given how poor Tesla Energy is at support.

@NightStorm If you "talk" to NCSTATE1978, he will tell you the inline filters completely solved his problem. Right now, my installer (in the DFW Area - Good Faith Energy) is getting ready to install the Ferrite Core solution. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The cost will definitely depend on your installers labor cost. The materials for the Ferrite Core solution are about $400 and the In-Line filter (look in the NCSTATE1978 post for the part number) will run about $900. The in-line filter will require about 3 hours of labor whereas the Ferrite Core labor is about 1 hour. There are some additional materals needed for the In-Line Filter. [Numbers assume a 2 PW3 installation]

The blinking or flickering is rather annoying. It only affects my dimmer switch installations. What is really annoying for me is not knowing if the programs will function as they did before PW3. Plus, you can not diagnose anything because the communication timing is all our of whack. I had some earlier Lutron devices, but really was not impressed by them. I am sure they have improved since then. I am considered some of the Z-Wave/Zigbee/Matter devices for outside. However, I really am dependent on scene programming. You can turn off your batteries to make sure everything really is working and perform a diagnosis.

Keep working with your installer. Show them this thread. I will say the minute I sent this thread to my installer, it went private or required a login.
