Program Spokens not appearing, no CSV Upload? (After DB fail

This has been a terrible experience, after your database failure!... I can't t even begin to explain all the work I've had to do, completely going back and basically starting over.

To save a bit of work, I first downloaded spokens csv.

How the heck does one UPLOAD that!?  (I decided to go the manual route, to save having to post here... but ended up here after all...

And after hours of manual config, step-by-step testing, I'm 90% but now when I go into Program Spokens, they appear BLANK on page, but they ARE in new downloaded CSV i did, and working, but can't see to modify, etc.

I've tried different browsers, different machines, etc

Hi,

First of all, I would not call it a "database failure". The database itself was never corrupted or had loss of any data, which a "database failure" would imply.

I'm not sure of all that you did, but all that was needed is to relink.

To answer your question, no there is no upload function. The download of the spoken exists to keep a reference, or to create documentation on the spokens. It is not meant to be a backup process. I'm not sure if you deleted them or not, but you should not.

Now regarding your program spoken - Are you saying that when you edit existing spokens that are programs, the Spoken and Alternate Spokens fields are empty? I'm not sure why that would be. I looked up your account, and edited the same one as in your screenshot "Siren-1second (0065)", and I do see the spokens. I see it for all of your programs.

I'm thinking that you might have a browser extension that fills these fields, actually clearing them with an empty string.

Sorry, but i can now relink in my sleep... Nope, not that!  I had it working... For 5 days after i reported it working...  Then woke up to that bloody 'UD NOT AVAILABLE'... Yes, i then relinked, unlinked, blah blah...

Then had to put a bigger hammer.

I was just being nice blaming the database... ;-))

If it was a blocker... why only the Programs, not the Devices?  And at one point it WAS showing the Spokens.

So, everything working great for five days and I wake up in the morning... BAM!!!
  • Sorry, I couldn't reach universal devices
  • Sorry, it looks like universal devices is unavailable right now
UNBELIEVABLE... WHAT IS GOING ON???
 
So, as per usual: -Reconnect account, nope
-Unlink,Relink, nope
-Reboot, nope
 
At ISY portal:

So, here i am 5 days later, all working, then woke up to 
AGAIN... UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Went thru all the steps...
-Reconnect Account, nope...
-Unlink,Re-Link, nope

At ISY portal:
ISY IS NOT ONLINE (see attached)
 
So, in AdminConsole...
-Config> Portals... Revoked...
...now can't see option to Register
(see 2nd attached)
 
-??? Why could Google no longer get to Portal...!!???
(It's still like theres some phantom old Portal its trying to connect to after X days) -My local ISY still works ok

Your ISY is showing up as not registered. Have you followed the steps in the wiki to register it and then approve it in the admin console?

If not, search the wiki for registering ISY on the portal and follow the instructions.

I ended up having to delete my ISY in the Portal... AGAIN!
It then gave a request to approve it in Admin Console (in Portal tab).
I have added one device and one spoken.
Of course, just like before, it now works, BUT WHY OK FOR ~5 DAYS?
Can UDI import my CSV?  This took me a long time, i'm tired of doing this over and over.

Is it a huge project to create a CSV import?
@bmercier 

Or could you import for me?  (I hate to ask, but maybe it's easy for you to do?)

Not possible. The export does not have everything needed to rebuild the internal representation of the spoken. It's meant as a human-readable list of spoken for documentation purposes.

I'm not sure why you deleted your ISY portal. That deletes all of your spoken configuration. There is never a need to do that.

If have no clue why it stopped working for you after 5 days.

If it happens again, open a ticket and I can investigate the logs.

Well, I ended up revoking on my end, and then the only way I could do anything beyond that was to delete the ISY on the Portal, which did allow me to start up!

Revoking access can't be reversed, and yes the only thing left is to remove it from the account.

What do you mean by it allowed you to start up?

Hi Fred!

I had that happen to me many times several years ago. I thought it was fixed now. From what I can recall, if you have a very long post and you use a backspace key, perhaps after using a mouse cursor placement, the whole message text would get deleted. I have never been able to find any trace of mine in the past.

As in bootstrap the whole thing from scratch...

I now have 3 outdoor switches have gone retardo... they work locally, but twhen i try spokens, google says "Sorry, I dont understand" (they were working after the latest resurrection.

(I think most other stuff is still miraculously working)

Those same switches did the same thing way back, and i had to do a "complete" deletion (i had put in a problem back then, that went on and on as I'm I'm sure you'll recall)... again, back then I was suspicious as to Google not seeing it properly any more).

Do you see them in the Google Home app?

Can you see their status in the app, and can you control them from the app?

Well, I finally think i figured out one of my problems... the spokens not working, or dropping off sometimes.  I was checking the devices in GH(GoogleHimeApp), and noticed, kind of by accident, noticed that the OutdoorSwitch was looking like a fader (not on/off like other switches)... (thanks to @bmercier tip to test device in GH... After I changed the category to "Switch", the spokens worked!.  So the i flipped it back to open/closed, and if I said "Hey Google set AirConditioner to 100% and 0%" it DID actually turn on and off!

Here's a few notes I made to myself... just in case it might help someone else.  I had not realized how important it was to get that Category RIGHT (i just thought it was a grouping for when you say "turn on every light" blah blah...

My notes:
TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:

points to remember: (GH=GoogleHome-APP, Portal=UDI-Portal)...
-IMPORTANT!... Portal ’GH-category’ (EG:light/fan…) is how GH handles and displays in GH. If you set to Open/CloseType, then it will be a 'blind', and NOT be ok! This will make the device look and act like a fade up/down device, so where you would normally say, for example, "turn on fan" you would instead have to say, "set fan at 100 percent" (weird), so you think that spokens aren't working at ALL... but they are, just weirdly!
-ALSO... the Portal ’Room’ is how GH(GoogleHome) groups things in the GH app!
-ALSO... Get a CSV download of all spokens (very handy list)... (no import, you need to manually re-populate)... do this before messing around!
-If you change device category or room, and if GH is stubborn to update the change, then delete and re-add the device and spokens etc on Portal and then refresh/restart GH. It's not a huge deal to delete a device and re-add it on the portal, as it doesn't delete the device itself on the Portal, nor in the ISY, etc... Just the set of Spokens for that device (So easy to re-add device on Portal!)
-If a device stops working via spokens:
-Check that the Category on the Portal hasn't changed
-Write down the spokens (or get CSV d/l), then delete/re-add on Portal)
HINTS
-If device is 'good' in GH then spokens should work:
-In GH you should be able to control the device and it should look like an on/off switch in GH if the Category on Portal is correct
-Device type important! (How GH assistant handles spokens)
(EG if device on Portal is set to “DeviceWithOpenCloseSyntax”, then it shows as a fader/blind
-If set as a Light:
(sometimes it won't display at all in GH IF it is something else really (EG really a 'Switch')
-Need to REFRESH/RESTART GH after change type & send spokens
-If you change ‘GH Category’ or ‘Room’, just a refresh of GH-App usually sufficient (Don’t need to resend spoken for that… but no harm in doing that))
-If you don’t see device in GH, try Favorites> "Edit"button!!!> See if you can find and add that device to Favorites)…
-Also try… GH> under section “Linked to you”> LongPress-device> and:
-Verify it displays as an on/off switch (not dimmer)
-Click gear icon on that page
-After device is in GH, you can rename from the default "first spoken" by selecting device in Favorites OR Devices, then Gear((UR), click on Name and enter new name for in GH app
