X-10 Devices Stopped Working With EISY.

Hello,

I have a blended system with INSTEON AND X-10 DEVICES. All were working fine together about a month ago.

The Insteon devices do work with Eisy and UD Mobil.

Now, no X-10 devices operate when signal is sent from Eisy unit. UD Mobil no longer works with X-10 as well. The X-10 hand held remote Does Work with the installed X-10 devices.

Running Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. Have 15 Insteon devices and 12 X-10 devices installed.

Eisy Version 5.9.1, OpenADR, Networking Module, Portal Integration, Z-Wave module. A10/X10 module.

Any help or ideas to resolution available?

Thank you,

Ron

Since X10 is working outside of eisy/plm, here are a couple of easy steps to eliminate the PLM:

  • In iox, go to tools / diagnostics / PLM info. What does it say?
  • Unplug, wait 10 seconds, and replug in the PLM. Retest

If that second step works, we should talk more about it here as it might be symptomatic of a failing PLM

The PLM/eisy saw the device at House Code B, Unit Code 3 switch on. IThe question is, what programs, if any, do you have that act on B3?

The same is true a few lines up for House Code N, Unit code 11.

In a nutshell, your PLM/eisy is seeing x10 traffic so not the issue

That takes it to what programming do you have for X10 devices, especially those 2 HC/UC combinations?

Sorry, II am a rookie so lost in what you said. Not sure what you are asking about 2 HV/UC combinations.

I have the devices installed and then turn them on or off with Eisy or UD Mobile. Nothing fancy, no scenes or anything else.

Just direct on/off activation

Ok. Did you unplug the PLM from the wall, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in and retest as listed in my first response? What happened?

If that doesn't help, it looks like it might be some kind of new power-line noise; something new in your house that would have been added around the time the problem appeared.

The way to start isolating that is to get a plugin x10 module, and temporarily plug it in to the same outlet as the PLM and repeat trying to turn it on with eisy / UDM. What happens?

We're kinda getting to the fringes here problem solving wise...

Did UDI have you replace the data cable from the eisy to the PLM when you upgraded? If a specific lead was broken, that possibly explains it.

The mystery here is that Insteon is working but not X10, and (seemingly) only X10 transmission with the eisy. It's as if the PLM was unable to transmit X10. Yet another PLM was tried with the same results. The hardware connections like the PLM cable seem ok since Insteon works.

The next thing I'd try is moving the PLM to an outlet on a different circuit, and maybe on the alternate phase. It sounds like there is a X10 signal issue, at least in some area of the house. Alternately, try a X10 transmitting device (like a transceiver) in the same outlet as the PLM. Is that device now having trouble transmitting? Has anything been added that might be a "signal sucker"? We add and move so many electronic items nowadays that this might be hard to really be aware of.

No. Just finished. No response at plain x10 module. Tried same circuit and plug as PLM.

I'm lost

The receptacle wasn't a split receptacle like on your kitchen counter or other cooking surface, was it?

Bad signal noise creators are small PSU like USB chargers, and Garage door openers have been found to be very bad sometimes.

Start un plugging things, especially cheap and old things.

Hi Again,

I've decided to abandon the X10 platform and convert to all Insteon. Tried everything I could and still no success, so goodbye.

One problem I am having: How can I add an Insteon Device when there is no identifiable address? Also no "setup" button. Any ideas?

Thanks again to all.

Specifically:

#2473 Receptacle

Follow the directions in the owners manual:

CONTROLLING OUTLETLINC FROM AN INSTEON CONTROLLER

Linking an INSTEON Controller to OutletLinc

To use OutletLinc as an INSTEON Responder, follow these steps to Link OutletLinc and a Controller

together. Refer to the Controller’s Owner’s Manual for detailed instructions on how to properly install and

Link it to OutletLinc.

The following will work for the most common INSTEON devices:

1) Set the Controller to Linking Mode. (For most Controllers, press & hold an On or Scene button for 10

seconds or the Set button for 3 seconds.)

You will have 4 minutes to complete the next step before Linking Mode automatically times out.

2) Press & hold the Set button on OutletLinc for 3 seconds

The OutletLinc Status LED will flash once and then turn on solid

The load will flash once

3) Confirm that Linking was successful by tapping the button you just Linked to on the Controller

OutletLinc will respond appropriately

See pages 3 and 7 in the manual.

Hi Dennis,

Yes the PDF refers to a "set button" which is non-existent on any of my Insteon Devices. That's my problem. How to add an Insteon Device to my Eisy without a "set button".
