SMTP Error

Featured Replies

Posted

Until a couple of days ago I was using the "Default" SMTP settings to send email notifications. That stopped working and I configured GMAIL to deliver mail. When I used the "Test" button in the Admin Console, I get a dialog showing an SMTP Server failure [[SMTP_ERRORS--1]]. BUT I also get the test message delivered to my email. I am also receiving all notifications I have created. So, not a problem .... or is it .....

You'll need to configure Gmail to allow your home automation controller to send notifications.

Enable App Passwords – you need to generate an App Password in your Google Account settings. This is a special password that allows third-party apps to send emails without requiring your main Gmail password

App Password is being used.

Even though the test is going through check our "Timeout (ms)" setting. Make it higher. I have mine at 5,000, but it's been suggested to set it to 10,000. What is your setting at before you change?

You're correct to be using the app password. Again, if you are getting the test then it is successfully sending.

If changing the timeout doesn't resolve the error then maybe reset the app password, but doubt that's an issue.

My "Timeout" was set to 1,000. I changed to 5,000 and the Test button still succeeds, WITHOUT the "SMTP Server failure" message. Tested other Program triggered notifications and they continue to be delivered as well. Thank you, this appears to be the solution.
