YW84U Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Good Evening All, I have hit a major snag - ISY is running after the upgrade, however I suddenly cannot communicate with any linked device at all. The problem began about three weeks ago, when a particular SL was working okay save and except for not updating its status in ISY consistently. While checking on it, I noted the upgrade notifications and backed up ISY prior to starting the download. All appeared to go fine, but after closing the browser, dumping the Java and returning, ISY went on a very long rampage attempting to query devices. Each device eventually ended up with red exclamation marks, and will not respond to commands. Tombstone Data: - PLM - D.50.BF v63 showing connected - PLM Links Table - 50 entries, all 'seem' okay to my untrained eye - No status reported on any devices - Devices respond properly to all local control - When in admin console, clicking on the on/off/fast on buttons do not appear to initiate any actions....before, there used to be a split second where you could see the 'current state' box show the light bulb before toggling a change... - Event viewer reports Insteon traffic when switch pressed locally Programs view took forever to load Troubleshooting: - cycled power on both PLM and ISY; no behaviour change restored ISY from backup made just prior to upgrade - no change - did a factory reset of PLM, and restored PLM - successful - attempted to query each device individually - all fail - attempted to restore one switchlinc as a test - no communications - read http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?t=4810 and other related troubleshooting info - downloaded 2.7.15 directly and did a manual upgrade just to be sure (plus dumped java, etc) - no change. I am at a loss as to why everything is now down. If it is the PLM, I don;t recall what warranty there is/may be if I purchased it packaged with the 99irPro in May of 2008. This setup has been nearly flawless in two years of faithful service, and I sure do wish to get things back to normal around the house! I have log files saved if they are of any probative value as well.... Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance, Tom
Michel Kohanim Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Hello Tom, Based on previous experiences, I am not convinced the problem is the PLM. Is it possible to move your PLM/ISY to some other location just for testing? Furthermore, I think the number of links in your PLM is quite low which we'll address after we have fixed the comm issues. With kind regards, Michel
YW84U Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Hi Michel, A appreciate the prompt reply (as you always do!!) I spoke with UDI support earlier, and we tried a number of troubleshooting steps. We have come to the conclusion that the PLM has gone or is on its way out - Unfortunately, it is just a hair out of warranty The reason for the low link numbers is that I only have about a dozen devices, and have not gotten around to programming a lot of scenes yet I've ordered up a 2413 along with a power supply for ISY just moments ago, and am hopeful this will get me back up and running. Another observation I have, is that my APs still seem to wink the LED 'periodically' although there should not be any traffic on the lines - is this expected behavior, or perhaps do I have a ghost in the machine still somewhere? Could it perhaps be RF interference? I never saw anything weird in the way of Insteon traffic within the event viewer..... Thanks in Advance, Tom
Michel Kohanim Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Hi Tom, I am glad that we have at least arrived at a conclusion! If you have any X10 devices and/or motion sensors/thermostats, then it's completely normal to see traffic on the PLM/Access Points. With kind regards, Michel
Brian H Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I have had noise blink my Access Points LEDs; but most noise found by my XTBM tester didn't. One 12" TV was the only one that would cause it. Mine are all Version 1.?? with the White LEDs. I don't know if the Version 2.?? with Red/Green LEDs are different.
YW84U Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 Now I await the Brown Truck of Joy! Hopefully, the new PLM should be here next week so I can test things out. I don't have any motion sensors (yet), Tstats or legacy X10 in the system. At first, I figured the AP blinks may be errant 900Mhz RF in the neighborhood, but I did notice that the PLM would at times randomly pulse the LED very brightly. Perhaps all along, maybe the PLM itself was suffering from issues? Never did see any errant messaging in the event viewer. It will be interesting to see if the behavior changes at all with the replacement PLM - that perhaps may hold some answers! I'll post an update once I have the items in place and have done some trials! Thanks again for all of the support! Cheers, Tom
