I have a bunch of duplicated items inside of my Alexa.  I've tried many different things, like combining things into groups and they still work very spotty.  I called echo customer service and they would only walk me through deleting devices in my alexa.  I need a "delete all" like there used to be on the windows access.  I've thought of canceling my whole amazon account and starting over but then I'd lose my purchase history, etc.

any suggestions or discussion would be appreciated.

Is there something other than devices that you would like to delete?  
 

I hane never noticed an option to mass delete a select group of devices, or to delete all.

I have many duplicate devices. some are even duplicated as devices and scenes.  they aren't readily available to delete.  some verbal calls to alexa will get a "I have more than one devices with that name, please give them different names..." but when I look in the list, there is either none or only one device with that name.

I have this problem too, and it's a royal PITA. In my case it seems to occur because I have multiple device controllers (Home Assistant, eISY, and Smartthings). The only thing i can suggest is in the Alexa app on the Devices page, use the search function to search for the duplicated names and delete one of the devices Alexa is having trouble with.

I don't know if this is related, but I get the impression Alexa looks at the ISY portal names for devices first, and that can cause duplication in Alexa if other platforms have a device with a similar name. In my case, I kept getting the message "the hub that device is connected to is not responding" for "bedside lamp". After some investigation, i discovered that in the ISY portal name list I had an old Insteon "bedside lamp" device that I have since removed, while at the same time having a current Home Assistant named Zwave "bedside lamp". In that case the only thing that worked to eliminate the duplication was deleting the name from the ISY portal.

My biggest gripe with Alexa occurs when she understands only one word of "___ fan" and instead just turns on the one that's first in her list ("Hunter fan"). Occasionally I'll walk into an unoccupied room and realize the fan there is on because of this, so I've gotten more creative with naming and my enunciation is improving.

 

If you have multiple control systems, each with their own Alexa skill, then you'll need to be careful and avoid creating duplicates. They don't know about each other. Ideally it's better to have only one system actually talking with Alexa, and the other systems communicate locally with the one that does. Finding unique device names becomes a challenge as the number of them grows. It's best to avoid multiple word names where one word is used in several names (ie: bedside lamp, kitchen lamp, etc). I've kept everything to single word names, which is much more reliable.

I only have one system that inputs devices into the alexa.  it is the Eisy portal.  if I delete everything off of the portal in the alexa settings, will that delete things from the Alexa?  it doesn't seem to do so.  I'd like to delete everything and start over from scratch to clean it up.  

Like the OP said, you could "delete all devices" in the web interface, but Amazon did away with web access a year or two ago.

I used it to clean up my device list when adding services created duplicate devices. Then, "discover all." It was a handy function.
