I have had the isy-994, then upgraded to Polisy (I think right before eisy came out). So not sure if I need to upgrade as my setup is not so complicated and Poilsy does it all for me, but wondering what I am missing?

• is interface to the programs and scenes still the same GUI?

• is it still Java?

• does it handle Zwave better?

...any other comments are much appreciated!

Both the Polisy and the eisy have the same capabilities. They both run the same versions of IoX and freeBSD. The eisy will be a little bit faster, and it's projected support will probably last a bit farther into the future.

The only big difference at this point is that the eisy supports eisy-ui, a new web-based GUI, which while it doesn't fully replace the Java admin console yet, it will be in the future.

From an automation perspective, they're identical, as is the new eisy V2, including Z-Wave handling. Though I will note that because the Z-Wave is external in the eisy, you can relocate it to a more advantageous location.

eisy-ui also works on the Polisy.

Didn't realize that had changed, apparently with the 6.0.0 release - go figure. My polisy got turned into a backup router after an SSD failure (and a second eisy as a backup controller).

Be sure you've updated the Polisy to the IoX 6.0 version. It should include the "eisy-ui" ability.

See the link above and be sure you read the requirements before blindly updating! There have been some reports of issues updating Polisy so if you run into issues open a support ticket with UD before you try any random adjustments on your own (or by reading other posts). UD has commented in the past that if you run into issues as a result of an update process to always open a support ticket. This helps them as much as it helps the users by being able to see what exactly happened without the user attempting a "self-fix". This way if they find an issue that can be resolved for other users they can implement the change timely.

That's right, it's upgradeable from that version. Just be sure that if the upgrade runs into a fixable issue (at worse, needing to reflash the SDD) and that you need support, that you can live without the Polisy. Ie: don't do upgrades on a Friday night

BTW do yo know how to do the Zwave backup, there seems to be no option for that under Zwave menu on my AC interface?

The Zwave backup option only appears if you're using the ZMatter dongle. It's not there if you have the Zooz stick. In that case it's "probably" included in the general IoX backup, but I cannot tell you that for a fact. If you're really paranoid (join my club!) about losing data or ending up with a blue brick, you can backup absolutely everything by doing a full unix backup to a USB stick, if you're comfortable with using ssh to log into your controller and keying in shell commands. I have detailed this in a forum thread that you can read below. Note that recovering with a eisy is somewhat easier because you can attach a keyboard and screen to it, and do a restore from a console screen, while if a Polisy loses network connectivity, you're quickly down to reflashing the SSD. Either way, you can then restore the full backup.

btw, another small difference is that the eisy has an HDMI port, so you can plug in KVM and tinker with FreeBSD, if you're into that sort of thing. You can also run a GUI on it - a GUI for FreeBSD, that is, not the eisy-ui discussed above. Not needed at all for the things most of us do, and frankly a little risky if you don't know what you're doing.
