Sunday at 03:20 AM3 days I know this device is deprecated. But I paid more than $200 for it and its PLM several years ago, and I am not going to purchase a newer model. It has been working flawlessly since mid-2001. While attempting to set up my holiday lights this year, I found that one of the X10 programs for the light was not working properly. I checked the bulb, and it needed replacement. Now I know that X10 is an old technology, but I do use it in my setup, which includes Z-Wave door locks, X10 light switches, and Insteon light switches. In addition, I have purchased a new Windows computer in the last several weeks. I downloaded and copied the admin.jnIp to my desktop. Now strange things start to happen. And the interesting thing is that the strange things happen and then they do not happen and then they happen again.First the ISY Finder came up and it could not find my device, even though I knew it was plugged in. Now this has happened before, so I was patient, and eventually it found it. I looked on my desktop, and it shows now a new icon ISY994 Administrative Console. Now when I click on this icon or the admin icon, I get the first panel that is shown in the attachment.I wait patiently and then click either one of them and the Administrative Console appears with the Authenticate Panel for my ISY. I know it is my ISY because it is the only one in the house, and it has the name that I gave it four years ago. I enter my last known User ID and Password, and it DOES NOT WORK. I scratch my head for awhile, remember that the default is admin/admin, and it lets me in.All of my devices are listed under Main | Network | <ISY device name>. However, none of my programs are shown under Programs | Details | My Programs. In fact, yesterday it showed some folders under My programs like Before Sunset and After Sunset. But today, there is nothing. I remember setting up folders there several years ago, and they were there yesterday. In addition, I frequently get a panel that is shown second in the attached document. This happens randomly when I click on various places trying to find the Programs. The programs still work, that is the front and back porch lights comes on at sunset and turn off at 1 AM and sunrise respectively. The doors lock at sunset and again at 10 PM. All my voice commands through Alexa and Google Home work just fine. This leads me to believe that the programs are stored in the PLM, and this is why I cannot see them in the ISY.I also tried to restore a save from about two years ago. The zip file begins with ISY-Backup.v5.3.4_<Date of Backup>. When I do so, I get the panel that is shown third in the attached document. I think this is why there are no folders in the program section of the Console because when I attempt the import, one of the warnings is... This will clear the contents of your ISY.When I do Help | About in the Administrative Console. I get the fourth panel in the attachment. It appears I have firmware v5.0.16, but I know I upgraded it, because I know I made a backup two years ago, and it says v5.0.16. I cannot find out where to download this.Thank you so much for your help, and I am sorry this is so long. I wanted to give someone the most information possible to solve this issue. Sunday at 03:29 PM3 days Clear your java cache, be sure to check all 3 boxes, then download the IoX Launcher from herehttps://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlpThe 5.3.4 upgrade can be found here: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/33287-534-isy994-last-release-for-isy994/If your're still having problems then it may be your SD Card. You can try cleaning its contacts by removing power from the ISY, then remove the SD Card and clean its contacts with a soft eraser
Sunday at 07:13 PM3 days Solution @Bill S as @Techman suggests please clear your java cache. Your images show your Firmware and UI do not matchDO NOT upgrade to 5.3.4 unless your system meets the requirements for that. Since you're running Z-Wave and your device is old (you claim from 2001) then you probably have the old Z-wave board in it (unless you updated it somewhere along the way). You can find on the forums how to determine which board you have. I think it's in a post from @lilyoyo1 . I'm not sure why/how you have a backup with 5.3.4 in the name when your firmware is 5.0.16. Did you have a different device at one time in the past that might have been a higher firmware than the device you're using now?In the future please post images inline and not in a document file. Sometimes people will not download such files. Images are best used when posted directly in the message (as the image above). Having to download a file then open and review it takes time and puts unnecessary files on other user computers.
Monday at 11:11 PM1 day Author Thank you so much. I assumed that attaching files was the way to go because of the option at the foot of the post. But I will put inline from now on.I mis typed. The product has been running flawlessly since mid-2021. I had purchased the device near 2019, and installed it during Covid. I am fairly certain I had updated it to v5.3.4 because I have an backup that shows that version. It got reset somehow.I am going to update it again and then restore the update. I will keep you posted.
Yesterday at 12:17 AM1 day Author Sorry, now I am really confused. I jacked up my ISY994izw. I am trying now to find out which is the most up-to-date version for this device. I have installed both v5.0.16c and I I have installed v5.3.4. They both function. I do not know which one I SHOULD be using. A post by @lilyoyo was mentioned. I cannot find it. I can give you serial number. I do no what version of Z-wave "dongle" I have. Very frustrating.
Yesterday at 12:23 AM1 day What is your zwave version number, it should be listed under the zwave menu
Yesterday at 12:38 AM1 day Author Thanks for your quick reply. I read some posts that I made on this forum last year. I discovered at that time that I have the version that requires v5.0.16c. I will reinstall that version, restore to a my last backup with that, look for my zwave backup, and add my new devices. I will keep you posted.
Yesterday at 02:48 AM1 day Author Yes it was all user error. For some reason I thought I did not have the model 300. So I made the same mistake I did last year, I updated it to v5.3.4. This is why I could find no programs. So I reloaded v5.0.16C. I restored a backup from that version, and all the programs are there. I then deleted all my v5.3.4 backups so that I would no longer be confused. I will put a label on the device that says it should only be loaded with v5.0.16C.Thanks again for your help.
Yesterday at 08:23 PM1 day @Bill S glad you got things sorted out. The post I mentioned is in the ISY994 Z-wave area. Specifically this post. The part you would have looked for is:The immediate physical differences between the 2 boards is that the 300 series card has a blue light in the back of the isy while the 500 does not.The issue is 5.0.16C was the last to support the 300 series boards. The later versions supported the 500 series and there was enough different that would cause issues in addition to the issues you experienced when trying to run 5.3.4.Lastly, make sure when you're next in Admin Console that you check the Help -> About and confirm the firmware and UI versions match. To make sure they match you need to clear the java cache (be sure to check all 3 boxes in this process!). In the image I posted above your versions DID NOT match. While it might not make a huge difference it can cause programs not to show up and/or have items missing. So it's always been important that UI and Firmware versions match. Usually, it's best when you clear the cache to also download a fresh start.jnlp from the UD site (and clicking "My ISY" on the top right of the front page) or getting an admin.jnlp file directly from the ISY994 (http://ip.of.isy/web/admin.jnlp - be sure to replace "ip.of.isy" with the actual ip address of your device). The difference between start.jnlp and admin.jnlp is not important in your case as you will not be updating the ISY994 beyond where you are currently. It might be easier for you just to get the admin.jnlp and always use that applet to open admin console. Good luck and hope it continues to work well!
17 hours ago17 hr Author Yes, thanks. I do have matching Firmware and UI Software Versions: v5.0.16C.Question: can I now delete the start.jnlp and admin.jnlp files?
9 hours ago9 hr If you remove the .jnp files. You probably would no longer have access to the ISY994i. Especially the Administrative Console. So changing things like scenes or changing modules settings
5 hours ago5 hr 12 hours ago, Bill S said:Question: can I now delete the start.jnlp and admin.jnlp files?@Brian H is right. However, If you used the start.jnlp you can delete that specific file (be sure you leave the IoX Launcher icon on the desktop). I’m not so certain about the admin.jnlp as I haven’t used it in a long time. Did it put an icon on your desktop to connect to the admin console? start.jnlp adds the IoX Launcher to the desktop. That is then the applet used to launch into admin console. admin.jnlp might not add an icon/applet to use in the future and the admin.jnlp file might be the only way to open to the admin console. If memory serves the admin.jnlp goes directly to a login screen. Meaning that file will be required each time you want/need admin console access. You can delete it, but remember you will need to “download”/get it again when you want to access the admin console for altering the ISY994 settings. If you don’t want it on the desktop or in the download folder I would suggest you move the admin.jnlp to another folder on the hard drive (I have an ISY folder in the root of the hard drive that keeps start.jnlp, finder addresses, and backups).Lastly, you’ll need to remember on some Java updates it breaks the connection with IoX Launcher and you’ll need to go through the clear Java cache and download/run one of the .jnlp files to gain access to the system again.
