Moving from 994i/ Mobilinc HD to eisy/UD Mobile

Featured Replies

The first line in the eisy migration wiki says that Mobilinc Connect is not supported on EISY. I assume this means my Mobilinc HD app will not work.

What, if anything will I lose in moving from Mobilinc HD to UD Mobile? What will I gain in addition to EISY compatibility?

On Mobilinc, I like that I can order devices by ON/OFF status so I can easily turn off lights that shouldn't be on. Is this possibie in UD Mobile?

I assume one can see and change variables in UD Mobile, and that UD Mobile will work remotely even though I have Starlink (CGNAT).

It would be nice to be able to edit programs on UD Mobile (can't do this on Mobilinc, though one can enable and disable programs and run program then statements, which I make frequent use of)

Anything I should be aware of before transitioning? (I can hold on to the 994i for some time while waiting for UD Mobile to make further strides).

Thanks in advance....

Yes, UD Mobile supports turning devices on and off, etc. You can also create a "favorites" folder for the most often used ones.

You can view and edit variable values.

There is some limited program editing supported.

You can have devices display different icons and colors based on status.

You can set up geofencing, to trigger commands or set variables based on entering or leaving defined geographical areas.

You can add devices of all types (Insteon, zwave, zigbee, Matter) to your controller.

You can access your controller through local network and also remotely if you have a portal subscription.

Thanks! I didn't see how to sort the list of devices by those are currently on, which I can do in Mobilinc. This helps in making sure that stray lights aren't on when I am not home. I hope that this can be added in the future if it isn't possible now.

I don't see a way to sort them in any other way than in alphabetical (ASCII) order in the main list. You can arrange favorites in any way you like. You can decide to hide nodes, and unhide them from a menu option.

I forget which of the apps that preceded UDMobile had a Tasker interface. I used to use Tasker for geofencing. I also recall that I could create direct buttons on the Android Home Screen with a prior app. I found these useful at the time and not available with UDMobile, but my interests have evolved over time and I have found other options. Still, these options might be missed by some.

Thanks. I've looked at the wiki on UD Mobile and then clarified on the App that I can do the following that are important to me:

  • Change variable values (wiki said you can't edit variables but maybe that means their names)

  • Run program if and then

  • Enable and DIsable programs

There does not seem to be an option to source the device list by current status. I have something like 70 or 80 devices so it is a long list and helps to be able to sort by on/off to see what is on. In Mobilinc HD at the top of the device list there are buttons to sort A-Z, Z-A, On-Off, and Off-On.

It would be great if this or something similar could be implemented in UD Mobile.

Mobilinc HD still works just fine with Insteon devices and the eisy. I use it (rarely). I have it on the iphone and know exactly what you mean by being able to sort by name or on/off status. I've set mine up to use through the portal access just as I always had it with the ISY994.

The only things I miss by using Moblinc are devices added by plugins.

To me Moblinc HD/Pro has/had much better UI for layout. However, UD Mobile has been good the newer things being added with z-wave, zigbee, and plugins. I just don't have much use for those so haven't spend the time learning/transfreing to UD Mobile like others have.

I'm using Mobilinc v4.17 on iphone iOS26.2 without issue.

The "old" Moblinc Connect option is what broke when UD came out with the Polisy/eisy lines.

@Geddy Thanks for the clarification about Mobilinc App vs Mobilinc Connect. I have the 4.17 version of the Mobilinc App also. I suspect I am still using Mobilinc Connect to connect to the ISY 994i. The Error logs contain lots of Mobilinc traffic that I assume wouldn't be there if I was going through the portal. I think i had an ISY at another house signed up for the portal but not this one. I think I didn't realize I could use the Mobilinc App through the Portal. I'll try to find the documentation for that.

Thanks again this is a big help.

Try these directions: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/ISY_Portal_MobiLinc_Configuration

Remember, I don't think you can add the ISY Portal to ISY994 any more, but certainly works if/when you get the eisy on the portal.

I just checked it out and my setup is exactly as described in the wiki. Online line I think it left out was "Connect Method" and I have it to Auto Detect and it shows as "Auto (HTTPS)". I also have it set to auto sync over wifi and cellular.

Oddly enough it does show my plugin folder and the YoLink plugin does show temps of all my temperature devices (that's nice). Other plugins are there and report some info, but I don't typically refer to them in the app and don't use many plugins in automation settings. A couple of my Zigbee smart plugs/outlets do work. I don't have any z-wave currently connected so not sure if they respond or not. They do show up in the list of items, but they are not currently in use (come to think of it I don't even know where they're being "stored").

The best way I know to see at a glance what is on and what is off it to create a favorites page with a folder for lights. Create tiles for the lights you want to monitor and then add Advance Status Configuration and a formula to change the icon color when the light is on.

This will stand out and let you see quickly what is on.

I would think the bigger question is why or how are you needing to review what lights are on?

If you have lights on that shouldn't be or you don't want to be on, why? If it is the result of programming not working or something else, maybe that need to be addressed?

THanks. I got it to work with the eisy. (The eisy is sitting on my network with isy"restored" from 994i backup but not yet connected to the plm or actually doing anything.)

@DennisC It's because I have parts of the house I may not have been in and for example guests have left. And it's not all lights, there are other devices also. It's not a feature I use every day but it's nice to have. Thanks for your helpful suggestions, though.

Glad you got it working.

I will offer up one more suggestion, for what it's worth. If I was in your situation, I would create one or more programs, including devices that make sense for your layout, either having no IF statement, or having a time based IF statement.

For the THEN portion of the program, have the listed lights turn off.

Next, I would leave the program disabled and when needed, either just run the THEN statement from UD Mobile, or if time based, enable the program.

You could take it further and have the time based program set back to disable after running.

If you end up with more than 1 program you could use 1 program to run a bunch of them.

Doing this from UD Mobile it becomes much wiser then looking for lights or devices that are still on and turning off individually. Oh, it won't hurt anything to turn off a device that is already off.
