Yesterday at 02:10 PM1 day I'm running an EISY with IoX 5.9.1. Last night I attempted to link two new-to-my-system devices. I had a SwitchLinc that was previously paired to a mini remote (direct, not through PLM). When presented with the 3 radio buttons to choose how to deal with link, I switched to the last option which said something about retaining previous links. I'm para-phasing as I can't get to that screen at the moment. I got an error message below.AI results suggested (keep your commentary about AI to yourself, please) that I power cycle the PLM, which I did with the admin console cleanly closed.I returned to the console and attempted again, this kicked off the normal linking progress bar which takes a few minutes to complete, but then it reset to zero and started again. My console has been in this cycle for over 12 hours and there are no additional indicators whether this will ever finish. I've got probably over 50 devices in my Insteon network and nearly as many scenes. Am I just seeing a complete scan of every device and scene relinking? At this point I'm just going to let this run the rest of the weekend and cross my fingers that it finishes without error. My concerns are two-fold: one that none of my scenes or programs are runnable due to all the link activity currently running, and two that I'm going to come back to my PC to find that something is irreversibly broken requiring significant rework. If you have any solid advice or experience to share on this, I would be appreciative.
23 hours ago23 hr Rebooting the eisy will usually resolve this issue. You might need to redo the module linking. Check first. The last (bottom) option is usually to remove existing links. If you cannot successfully link it to your eisy, you might need to factory reset the switch first. In that case, also recreate the direct link with the mini controller, though I'd use a scene would be better.
20 hours ago20 hr Author What risk do I have in shutting down the console? Am I going to tank my entire Insteon network?
20 hours ago20 hr No. The beauty of insteon is that any n-way switch setups are programmed by the isy as a one time event. The isy and the plm can fail it be unplugged and those go right on working. However, whatever is iox programs you have that interact with insteon will no longer work... like turning on lamps or yard lights at dusk Edited 20 hours ago20 hr by paulbates

Your system is out of date and needs to update. There was a warning about running below 5.9.1 to update to 6.0.5, but could also be less significant issue going to 6.0.5 from what you're running if you're having linking issues already.Typically a hung system means something isn't right. 24 minutes ago, JTome said:What risk do I have in shutting down the console? Am I going to tank my entire Insteon network? You're just looking to reboot the system. I'm not sure what you mean by "shutting down the console". If you're in admin console and the link status is still constantly restarting or hung then the system is frozen. If you're able to get into admin console without a status bar running all the time click on the configuration tab then click on "reboot" and that should restart the eisy enough that it might not freeze. Allow a few minutes (maybe 5) for the system to fully restart/reboot. If you're using UD Mobile you should get a few alerts that PG3 is stopping then another message saying it is starting. If you don't get those messages then the reboot might not have been successful. Be sure to close/exit admin console and then push the power button until it turns red. Pull the plug for ~20 seconds. Plug the unit back in, wait 5 seconds, then (if the button is red) press power briefly and it should turn blue. You should get alerts that PG3 is starting (if you're using UD Mobile). After about 3-5 minutes try logging back into the admin console.MAKE A BACKUP OF IoX!Before you try to link anything again make a backup NOW. If you're running z-wave (with zmatter dongle) make a z-wave backup and THEN backup IoX. 5 hours ago, JTome said:When presented with the 3 radio buttons to choose how to deal with link, I switched to the last option which said something about retaining previous links.Usually you would want to select the option of "removing existing links". Now you mentioned something about this being previously linked directly with a remote. You might want to preserve those, but typically this option could be what is causing you issues. It's usually better to remove previous links when adding to the IoX system and then re-linking any devices directly once the unit is added and programmed correctly in IoX. Lastly, you should update the system to 6.0.5 simply to keep it current. Usually step # 1 in trouble shooting is "are you on the current release for firmware?". You are not. Many things could be working against you that might have been fixed in an update. Not likely in this case, but still would be the first issue is you're on an older firmware that could have an unknown bug/issue that is causing you to have this issue.
14 hours ago14 hr Author I mustered the courage to close the admin console. I restarted the console numerous times and each time I get the same popup dialogs. I can't figure out how to cancel the progress bar; I can only shut down the admin console again. I tried restarting my EISY but the behavior remains the same.Is there some way to reset the admin console so it doesn't expect to do this linking each time? Edited 14 hours ago14 hr by JTome
