Tuesday at 07:15 PM5 days I was checking my Admin Console today and tried some of the option buttons for a 2334-2 KeypadLinc. I keep getting this error:Could not read config file.[./FILES/CONF/32FBC1.REC]Can anybody tell me what that means and what do I need to do to fix it? Do I need to delete the KeypadLinc from EISY and then re-link it? Should I factory reset it first? Also, is there any documentation available that explains all the options available for a KeypadLinc and what each one does? There's buttons and boxes in the middle of the page, and buttons at the bottom of the page that seem to be the same. I've spent a lot of time experimenting with each button and value box to try and learn what they do but still remain frustrated. I think some of them are non-functional from what I can tell. I've tried the Wiki but there's nothing there that I can find.Thanks.

Might be the same that's in the wiki though. Don't think there's been any update since they were introduced. What are you trying to do? Remember, after IoX 5.x you need to click the button next to the option to get it actually set to the device. (like backlight and on level) 27 minutes ago, IndyUDIuser said:[./FILES/CONF/32FBC1.REC]Can anybody tell me what that means and what do I need to do to fix it?Not entirely sure what this means, but could be a corrupt link or data file for that device. Since 32FBC1 is probably the Insteon address for that keypadlinc. Is this a newly installed device or one you're just "playing" with all of a sudden? Either way, I'd make a backup of IoX before you proceed much further in case something becomes corrupt. Hopefully it isn't at this point, but have a backup handy to restore if something really goes goofy.
Tuesday at 09:32 PM4 days Author I've had this KPL in my bedroom for many years. About a year or so ago I fooled around with creating a program to turn the LEDs off at night so my wife wouldn't complain about how much light pollution they create. I thought I had it working, but today I noticed all the LEDs/backlight are stuck in the off state (KPL works OK but is completely dark). So I went in to Admin Console to figure out what is going on. In the center of the screen there is a Backlight button with a value box. The value is 0/0, so I changed it to ON 15/OFF 7 and clicked the Backlight button. KPL is still dark. Next I tried the LED Brightness button at the bottom of the screen. That just gives me the error message. I tried clicking Write Changes and still dark.I may remove this KPL from EISY and do a factory reset on it and then relink it to the EISY. My typical "go back to square one" approach. I just wish I know what all the options on that screen are supposed to do. Most of them seem useless right now but maybe that's due to some kind of corruption in the device's memory or settings.I should note that since the KPL is completely dark, I cannot tell if buttons or on or off. I don't use them as much as I used to so I may just yank the KPL out and put in a SwitchLinc.
Tuesday at 11:17 PM4 days Try creating a program such as the one I attached. The actual values may vary depending on the KPL fiermware version
Wednesday at 08:09 PM3 days Author I use two small programs. I may combine them into one. The KPL is turned completely off while two adjacent Switchlincs are just dimmed (since they only have one LED and aren't as intrusive, plus this keeps a "nightlight effect" so I can find the switches in the dark.KEYPD 7D 2200 Keypds Dim - [ID 004E][Parent 004B]If Time is 10:00:00PM Then Set 'Master Bedroom / MBR Keypad / KPDMBR.Btn1+6TrkLts' Backlight On 0 / Off 0 Set 'Master Bedroom / MBREast Table Lamps' Backlight 10% Set 'Master Bedroom / MBREast Ceiling Fan' Backlight 10% Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')KEYPD 7D SNRS Keypds Bright - [ID 004D][Parent 004B]If Time is Sunrise Then Set 'Master Bedroom / MBR Keypad / KPDMBR.Btn1+6TrkLts' Backlight On 15 / Off 7 Set 'Master Bedroom / MBREast Table Lamps' Backlight 100% Set 'Master Bedroom / MBREast Ceiling Fan' Backlight 100% Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')
Wednesday at 08:15 PM3 days Author All the devices are in the dimmed mode. Running the second program's THEN clause does nothing as far as the devices are concerned.I have no idea why these stopped working. Typical Insteon/IoX -- works great until it suddenly and unexpectedly doesn't.
Wednesday at 08:27 PM3 days Author Rebooted EISY. No help. Every button on the KPL gives me the "Could not read config file" when I click the "LED Brightness" button. Is that error coming from the device itself or from the EISY?
Wednesday at 09:01 PM3 days Try removing power from the EISY for 15 seconds. Are you on windows or a mac
Wednesday at 09:10 PM3 days Author Deleted the KPL from EISY and factory reset the KPL. Now all the LEDs and backlight are working again.A Switchlinc next to the KPL was also dim, so I removed it from EISY and factory reset it. It is now working.Found two other switches in my house with dim LEDs. I have never messed with them before (as far as LEDs go). Removed them from EISY and factory reset them. LEDs are now on.Deleted a few programs that were referencing these devices since they no longer exist in EISY. May re-link them later on. I'm going to throw this out there... I recently upgraded to v6.0.5. Could that have caused these rather odd problems?Enough frustration for today. I'll re-link these devices to EISY later.9 minutes ago, Techman said:Try removing power from the EISY for 15 seconds. Are you on windows or a macI've reset it once or twice using the Reboot button in Admin Console. Didn't help. I'm on Windows 11.
Wednesday at 09:43 PM3 days Removing power is different from the Reboot as its clears out the memoryThe upgrade to 6.0.5 would not have caused the problemMost likely you had a corrupted link table in the KPL. Usually a restore device would correct that. You can check the device link tables by running diagnostics for the device, then click on compare to compare the link tables stored in the EISY with the tables stored in the device. If you see a mismatch then a restore device should correct the mismatch. If there's no mismatch and you still have a problem then a factory reset would be appropriate.
Friday at 01:06 AM2 days On 5/26/2026 at 3:15 PM, IndyUDIuser said:Could not read config file.[./FILES/CONF/32FBC1.REC]@IndyUDIuser , the ".REC" files are binary files that the ISY maintains for each Insteon device in your system. The file is a "image" of the configuration for the devices (On levels, ramp rates, scenes - and other things I don't understand). The file is written to each time you change a device parameter, add it to a scene, or change a scene parameter. Forum posts seem to indicate that performing "scene adjustments" or "backlight changes" on a regular basis may increase the likelihood of file corruption. As with all file systems, an interrupt during file access is a sure fire way to corrupt the file. In past years, this was normally due to power interrupts, or SDcard failures.Search 'site:forum.universal-devices.com ".rec" file' for background on the subject. The current EISY "should" be less prone to issues due to the superior storage media. There have been a number of recent posts involving ".REC" file corruption on the EISY. My guess is that the EISY is undergoing reboot's while the ".REC" files are being written (a SWAG to be sure).Recovery is:Delete/RE-add device (recreates .REC file)Restore ISY filesystem from backupOn the EISY, you can apparently replace individual device ".REC" files IF you have a valid backup. You will need to search the forum for this - I don't have an EISY - no experience. Edited Friday at 10:53 AM2 days by IndyMike
