I got a message today on my Apple MacBook Pro stating that Apple will not support Intel based programs on the next OS upgrade, I guess the Java IoX Admin console will stop working at that point. Will the eisy-ui be ready to take over from Java when Apple's support ends? Currently the eisy-ui does not create or modify programs.

An update on the eisy-ui status would be appreciated.

Not sure about Apple devices but UDI has said in the past the target for the webui is end of year 2026. So maybe they had this in mind with their timeline.

I actually mentioned to Michel a couple of years ago that they should develop a webui to gain better adoption of their devices and plus java always seems to be a problem area for new users.

I was told, UDI is a small company etc.

There are AArch64 / Arm64 versions of Java for Macs.

The warning is macOS notifying you that your Intel Mac is approaching end of OS upgrade support. It's a hardware generation issue, not a Java issue. Fully native Java for macOS on Apple Silicon ARM has been available for some time, so anyone on modern M1 to M5 Macs are fine. When you upgrade to Apple Silicon, just install the native ARM64 JDK and the IoX Admin Console will continue to run without issue.

@Diesel is it that simple? Just remove the old java 8 and install the newer JDK and run the IoX admin console again and it should fire up in the right environment?

If your current mac is older and has an intel based processor, no that will not work. Apple is sunsetting development of the intel processor/silicone based software platform, MacOS. No more updates coming.

What you can do:

1. Do you have a Mac with Mac silicone = does it have an M1 - M5 chip? If yes, install the appropriate Java software for an Apple Silicone Machine... . then install the iox launcher. The Java installer typically picks the right version automatically.

2. You're going to keep your older Intel silicon based mac (not M1 - M5 chip). Do nothing, as you are frozen at both MacOS and Java versions. Apple is not providing more updates to you. You keep using what you have the way you have it with no new improvements or security upgrades on the horizon.

Think of the Intel Mac like the ISY994. UDI created the ISY994 many years ago and has moved on to new and improved products like the polisy and eisy. There's no changes or feature enhancements coming for the ISY994, yet many users still use them.

Sorry for not clarifying, have an apple silicon mac, that's why I'm receiving the error, as my machine is eligible for the OS upgrade and it's warning me that my current Java version won't work after that upgrade.

Thank you for clarifying on the above, I will remove my current version of Java and install the latest JDK and give it a whirl. Appreciate your help.

Unfortunately this is what I was afraid of... so not sure what to do now.

Uninstalled the old version, installed the new JDK version and everything is showing correctly when I look at the version info in terminal. I launch the start java app from IOX and this is what I get.

This is a long path of rabbit hole after rabbit hole. I was able to install openwebstart and even had to re load java 8 so I could grab that vm runtime environment and can now get the acutal start screen to come up but it will not actually load the admin console.

Did you download and install the native Apple Silicon Java runtime for MacOS Arm64 from Oracle's site here ?

If not, uninstall and cleanup any other Java installations first.

Yes, I realized I actually had a different compatible installation I was trying to get working and removed it all then realized all I needed to do was follow the Wiki and it would take me to the correct link which you have above. Thank you
