I have been playing with matterjs-server on a linux box. 80% of the devices I connect to it actually connect and I can turn them on and off or get status.

but on eISY, I can not get any matter devices to configure. I have tried Tapo, IKEA, and Sonoff devices and can't get any of them to link up.

Using Google home or Amazon Alexa I connect the device and have full control. I go into the setting of the device and create a share code (just the numbers). If I connect it to matterjs-server it connects usually within 30 seconds. Doing the same process with eisy. The flow is different.

1) go into Google home, find my device, go to setting and select USE PARING CODE, not QR code.

2) I have 15 minutes to complete these steps from this point.

3) I open UD MOBILE and click the + sign -> ADD MATER DEVICE

4) Select the option of ADD MATTER DEVICE WITH SETUP CODE

5) Scroll to the bottom and input my setup code, no spaces, not dashes click SUBMIT

6) it then opens GOOGLE HOME set up. (this I find odd) Google home pages says it found device and then goes back to UD MOBILE pages

7) ERROR: Could not discover device: Timeout: no matching Matter commissioning service found within 15s

Why does UD Mobile open up google home search during provisioning?

Anybody actually using Matter devices on eISY home?

Try adding from eisy-ui, inclusion has been drastically improved.

I don't see any way to ADD new devices using eisy-ui Under nodes the (+) just adds folders. No love no drama

This is in Beta repo. Upgrade to beta or wait until released to production.

I do not recall mine doing this. But...I often used two devices to do this. One had google home open. The other had UD Mobile open. Perhaps this matters.

I have taken a break from matter. I have tried a handful of matter devices. I have eventually (Some took multiple attempts. Most required starting with google or Alexa first, then sharing. I was able to directly pair only two matter devices.) was able to get them all linked up. I have only a single Matter-over-thread devices. The rest use wifi.

In 100% of the cases, matter connectivity eventually fails. Sometimes a device loses wifi connection, but other times wifi is still connected but matter control is "offline". Sometimes the offline condition of matter affects all controllers (google, Alexa, EISY), sometimes it affects only EISY. I have decided that it is not worth it for me to spend these hours trying to figure it out, or try to fix it when it fails. Matter devices are now controlled (on/off) via smart plug or equivalent.

This comment is my own and not that of UD:

IMHO matter has it's place but not in lighting or sensors. It should be limited to complex devices that already run independently such as thermostats, sprinkler controllers, etc. These devices usually cost more and have a better matter implementation, and the MFG is unlikely to make a Z-Wave/Zigbee product. Many of the devices we tested, especially the low cost ( less than $50) had issues eventually, in may cases you get what you pay for. Also many consumer WiFi routers are not setup to handle a large amount of devices and start to drop connections. So if planning to have more than a handful of matter devices a user needs a high-end router.

The next issue is routers. What happens when you replace your router? Be prepared to reset all your matter devices. This is fine for a few devices (a thermostat and a sprinkler controller) but spending a day trying to get my light switches/bulbs back online is not something on my TODO list. Does your router force the same SSID for 2.4 and 5GHz networks? Some Matter devices try to connect to a network that is not supported so may cycle between connected and disconnected, so you need to run 2 independent networks.

There is another issue with most devices, who is the admin and how is network connectivity established? Some devices are self administrators (e.g. nest) so you can manage other admins and network connectivity from the device itself. Other devices require an administrator to setup admin and network, when having network issues or changing routers this is a huge obstacle ofter requiring a factory reset.

I tend to agree with this assessment. I suspect wifi is not the best protocol for much of the home automation system. I will add that I am not sure that higher-end wifi systems guarantees better results. Or, perhaps my netgear orbi system is not as high-end as I would have expected.

I especially agree with the concerns about upgrading my wifi system. The thought of re-adding 60+ devices in my house, with all the static IP addresses is not something that I want to do.

I have no plans to use matter switches, outlets, keypads, bulbs, or plug-in modules. My only current interest in matter is for specialty lighting devices such as some of the govee outdoor color lights and similar, unique specialty items.

For the record, I am not casting blame on the EISY for my own problems with matter. I suspect it is a broader issue than any single element.

I had no plans on switching either, but when you can get a dual pack of switches from Tapo for $23.99 where 1 zwave on/off switch from zoos is $43.95 it starts to add up.

Using the matterjs-server running as a container I have not seen any fallen off switches yet. Its been a few weeks, and yes I had to tweak my parms for mDNS, once I did that all my switches (battery powered - IKEA) that stopped working now work day after day. I was just hoping to have the same ability using the eISY Matter Stack and not have to run my own. Sonoff, Tapo and IKEA all seem pretty solid so far for me, Though hit me up in a month, I may have different feelings then ;-) I'm not going to rip out all my Z-wave items but if one dies I will consider a Matter device in its place.
