How to differentiate between Zwave and Zwave LR?

Featured Replies

I have a couple of Zwave-LR devices (amongst a bunch of other Zwave normal mesh units), and the most recent i got is an outdoor double plug ZOOZ model Zen14 800LR. I'm wondering how to tell whether this thing is working in LR mode. The range seems poor, to be about the same as my old Zwave normal plugs when I test them. I'm just wondering if this ZOOZ is backwards compatible and somehow thinking it should be in with the normal Zwave mesh?

If understand it, you’ll need to remove the device as it would have been added as a mesh device and add it back as LR device. Have you updated the firmware on the ZMatter dongle?

The biggest indication of LR operation is the node number. It should start at 256. I don't know what your Zwave dongle is, I have the ZMatter, so node names are prefixed with ZY. My first (and only) LR device thus has node name ZY256.

But you would have to have included it as a LR device, with some setting up. Notice how the Zwave setup screen below shows the Z-Wave Region as US LR:

Then there is the dongle firmware update and everything else that needs to be done:

Looks like I'm out to lunch on a whole bunch of stuff here, because my node does not start above 256, and I don't see anywhere to see the ZMatter version. Thought it was somewhat up to date, but obviously ZMatter is another animal. So I have to hook it up to a Windows device to upgrade it?

Yes. If it was never updated, your ZMatter dongle is very likely at firmware 7.32. You can see the version in eisy-ui by going into the Z-Wave menu and clicking on X-Ray -> DH Controller. Here's mine after the update, see how the APIVersion = "07.46"

Yes, you're correct. It's at 7.32.
what's the procedure for upgrading it?

Can this now be done from EISY-UI, or Mac?, or does it have to be Windows?

For the procedure, read the forum thread I referenced earlier. Pay attention to the posts written by me and @junkycosmos .

For using a Mac, you'll have to figure out the equivalences on your own. @Javi mentions having used a Mac.

Read the whole thread before getting started.
