upstatemike Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 One change that I think would be very useful would be a "Show Device Links" function that displays plain english instead of raw link data. In other words, when a device link table is displayed I would like it to read as: Link Table for "Living Room Switch" 54.A4.16 X10 Address = B7 1 Controller link to "PLM" 66.D4.07 2 Controller Link to "living room lamp" A2.06.55 3 Responder Link to "unknown" 55.04.C4 4 Invalid Link type to 09.78.BB etc. I think this would be useful for troubleshooting problems without requiring a detailed knowledge of raw link data syntax.
IndyMike Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 upstate, Great idea - I find myself constantly going back to the Insteon documentation for the magic decoder ring. Maybe we could get a standard display (what the ISY presents now) with an option button for "verbose" (similar to the compare button we have now)? It would also be nice to display group associations and on levels.
Michel Kohanim Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Hi guys, I like the idea! With kind regards, Michel
andrewm Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I'd like this as well - in fact I was just thinking it again today when I was looking at the Scene Test output. One difference between the Universal Devices people and their users is that the users probably for the most part don't use the more technical aspects of ISY every day. So when we users come back to it we have to relearn what it all means. To UD people the acronyms & protocol will all be second nature. Actually the same thing applies in many places. Eg Log Levels - how are people supposed to know (without trial and error) that log level 3 represents more logging data than log level 0? I know I've used other software where '0' represents the maximum. Again if you're familiar with the product and use it on an ongoing basis it's not an issue because you learn the behavior, but for infrequent or new users that's not the case. The solution in this case is easy - include a text label 0=None (or least) 3=Most.
Michel Kohanim Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Hi Andrew, You are correct. Making the events to be more English is a little bit more involved than changing the text from 0 to None and 3 to Most. With kind regards, Michel
