apostolakisl Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Does anyone know how much electricity the ISY plus it's PLM consume?
Brian H Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I will try and do some measurements. They will be different between the older 2412S PLM with a power transformer linear power supply and the 2413S with a high efficiency switching regulator power supply. The external supply for the ISY99i with the 2413S. May use different amounts of power depending on what model you have.
apostolakisl Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 thanks. I look forward to hearing your findings. Certainly a selling point for ISY is the lack of a computer running 24/7 and I am guessing that the ISY runs in the sinlge digit wattage as compared to more than 100 watts for a computer.
Michel Kohanim Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 apostolakisl, ISY uses 300 mA at 5 volts. In addition to ISY, you have to measure the amount of wattage the power supply uses that is wasted. And, then add the PLM. From our measurements with our current power supplies, ISY/power supply use about 2 to 3 watts. With kind regards, Michel
apostolakisl Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 That is impressive considering your only other options that even come close to ISY functionality are applications on PC's using 20 times that much electricity. I have no doubt, ISY is the greenest way to automate a house.
Brian H Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Label on the 2413S says 7 watts and the older 2412S says .100 amps at 120 volts AC. If it was a resistive load and not a transformer. That would be 12 watts. My Kill-A-Watt meter isn't made for such low loads but read about 1 watt on both the 2412S and 2413S. There VA ratings where in the 3-4 range and the Power factor was jumping in the 0.3 to 0.6 range.
apostolakisl Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks Brian. It looks like maybe something like 10 watts or less for an ISY to operate an Insteon house.
