ISY working when not linked to PC

I have an ISY-26 controlling an Insteon home system. I use the ISY to turn on and off landscape lights at specified times each evening. The system has been working perfectly for many months up until a couple of nights ago when I noticed the lights had not turned on. When checking on the system, I noticed the ISY was blinking two red lights (Mem and Error) and also realized that the CAT5 cable from the ISY was no longer connected to my router (no idea of how long it had been disconnected). I reconnected the CAT5 cable, opened the Admin panel, found everything to be operating as usual and noticed the two red lights were now off. All is well, the past two nights the lights work correctly again.

So today, our Charter cable went down for a short while and when resetting the cable modem and router I decided to disconnect the CAT5 cable going to the ISY. I see the two red lights flashing again but find the landscape lighting to work just fine.

Finally my question---is it proper to allow the ISY to work independently from the PC connection? Just let the two lights flash and expect the ISY to handle the Insteon system. If there is a power outage to the house, will the ISY be able to reset on its own once the power is restored or is this possibly why I had the problem of losing control over my landscape lights?

Thanks,

Hello RBC,

ISY should work independent of any network connection. The only functions that would not work are those relating to network such as email/notification, synchronizing time with NTP, etc.

If you have a lot of email notifications then if you do not have network connection, ISY might run a little slower since it queues up all the emails to be sent out.

I am not sure why your lights didn't work ... is it possible that the time was off a little (no NTP)?

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

As I recall, the lights that normally come on around dusk, were off after dark. In other words, it wasn't just a few minutes late but possibly 30-60 minutes late. I manually switched on the lights at the keypad and later turned them off the same way.

After reconnecting the cable to the network the admin panel showed all was working correctly. I will continue watching the ISY in the present (no cable connected to the network) condition.

If there is a brief power outage to the PLM and/or the ISY---will the ISY and PLM reset and continue to operate the Insteon system without error? (no cable connected to the network).

Thanks for your continued support,
