ingeborgdot Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I had my isy setup almost 2 years ago to work over the internet but I had a problem with my router and it erased all the ports and things I had setup. It has been so long I can't remember what to do? Get that. I know it was an https and 5000 but I can't remember exactly what to do? Anyone care to try and help. I have a 2wire router if that helps.
ingeborgdot Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Well, I found out it was not 5000 so what port should I use along with the https?
oberkc Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I do two things when I loose internet connectivity. First, from the admin panel, I believe one can find the address under help>>about. Failing this, I disable internet access, then re enable internet access. It will give me the address for internet access.
ingeborgdot Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Well, I got it workings. Let's hope it keeps working this time.
Goose66 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 The external-facing Internet port can be anything you want it to be. It depends on what is setup for your pin hole and/or port forwarding in your router/firewall. The port set on the ISY is inconsequential, and can remain at the default 443 for HTTPS, as long as the port forwarding in the firewall is set to forward from the external-facing Internet port to the port configured in your ISY on your LAN. I suggest you use a non-sequential five digit number between 33000 and 64000 for the external-facing Internet port. This may make it high enough and random enough that it won't be scanned by port scanners looking for holes in your firewall.
ingeborgdot Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Really? So if I went in and changed it to let's say 60000, it will work with that port setting? I was not aware of that. I will try that when I get home. Thanks.
Goose66 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 So in your router/firewall you have a port forwarding setup, e.g. forward TCP packets received on port 60000 to port 443 of 192.168.1.67 (your ISY IP address) on the internal LAN. The ISY is configured to respond to https requests on port 443 (the default). When accessing from the outside, you whould specify https://72.44.35.91:60000/admin (your DSL modem/cable router IP address plus the target port) to get to the ISY. Every port scanner in the world checks port 443. Don't open up port 443 on your firewall because it will just make you a target. Use something obscure, like 47813, and use the method above to set it up to access your ISY.
ingeborgdot Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 I have a dyndns account so I can access it remotely. So all I would have to do is change it to one of those numbers in between the ones you said and use my dyn account?
Goose66 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 That is exactly how I do it: https://mydomain.com:60000. Of course, the browser is going to complain about your certificate not being valid. Also, the ISY 99 has an "Enable Internet Access (all devices)" menu item in the Admin console. I have know idea what that does.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hello kingwr, thanks so very for all your help and support. Enable Internet Access tries to configure a UPnP enabled router with port forwarding rules for ISY. In most cases, this is not a very reliable method since the router will lose it if rebooted. ingeborgdot, if you have a lot of problems configuring remote access, please do not hesitate to contact us and we'll walk you through it. With kind regards, Michel
ingeborgdot Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 I was having a problem but that was just lack of doing it. It got it going with no problems now. Thanks.
