Michel Kohanim Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Hello all, I am happy to announce the availability of our 3.1.5 release! For a list of changes, please take a look at this post. IMPORTANT 1. Since we added support for 2048 bit SSL, we had to change some of the networking libraries so as to make sure the overall system performance is not impacted. For instance, during key handshake, in previous releases, most other sub tasks would stop. In this release, those sub tasks continue to function although at a slower pace (the CPU is hard at work). As such, please do be kind enough to watch for any network anomalies. 2. Please note that Safari does not support SSL session reuse and thus might take an exorbitant amount of time to communicate with ISY. As such, when using 2048 bit SSL, it's best not to use Safari. 3. If you are using the Irrigation Module, you must edit the programs using Irrigation variables and save the programs again. 4. Upgrading from 3.1.3 and below: If you are using WeatherBug Module's Rain Today in your programs, please note that the precision has changed from 1/10 to 1/100 and thus your programs might not run properly Things to test: - Irrigation Module -- Help | Purchase Modules | Irrigation Module ... you can use coupon code irrigation-promo-11 for $15.00 off (total will be $4.00) - New supported devices - Network activity For a discussion of variables, please look at our Program Variables forum. Notes: 1. ISY-26 is no longer included in the firmware builds 2. Due to the sensitive nature of supporting MorningLinc, users now must agree to terms and conditions upon Admin Console start up otherwise the dialog keeps popping up every time the Admin Console is started 3. IMPORTANT If you have already installed a self signed certificate and your current firmware is 2.7.10 and below, you must reinstall a new one before the upgrade. Instructions: 1. Please backup your ISY (File | Backup ISY) 2. Please download the firmware for your platform - please do not unzip ISY 99i Series OR 994i Series 3. Important (If upgrading from 2.8.5 through 2.8.14) Due to invalid Java certificate chain, please make sure to remove all Universal Devices certificates from Java: a. Close all browser sessions b. Open Java Control Panel (Java Preferences on MAC) c. Click on the Security tab. Remove all Universal Devices certificates (on MAC, click on the '-' button at the bottom) e. Clear your Java Cache 4. Login to the Admin Console and choose Help | Manually Upgrade [the name of your system] 5. Choose the file saved in step 2 MAC users: if upgrade fails, please add https://your.isy.ip.address to ISY Finder (see 3f above) 6. After the upgrade, ISY reboots. Please do ensure to clear your Java Cache 7. IMPORTANT Once upgrade is completed and ISY reboots, use any of the following methods to access your ISY's Admin Console: a. 99i - http://isy/admin - applet (Windows only) b. 99i - http://isy/admin.jnlp - Java application (Windows only) a. 994i - http://or/admin - applet (Windows only) b. 994i - http://or/admin.jnlp - Java application (Windows only) c. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin - applet d. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp - Java application e. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.5 - applet f. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.5/admin.jnlp - Java application Dashboard - not fully supported - http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3. ... board.jnlp Thanks and with kind regards, Michel Quote

TJF1960 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Ditto. And SL Relay LED brightness adjustment fixed as well. Thanks, Tim Quote
ryarber Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Install went well, but I've been having some difficulty with an icon relay switch (2876SB) since I upgraded to 3.1.4. ISY kept giving me an "unable to communicate with device" error. I just got a replacement switch today and replaced it thinking the switch had gone bad. Now, ISY will not add the new switch to my lighting. States it cannot remove existing links. Quote
IndyMike Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Hello ryarber, I've had problems communicating with my 2876sb Icon (V.39) when using I2 mode. Check to make sure that the ISY is set to use the "Automatic" communication mode (menu item: "Link Management/Advanced Options/Automatic"). I can communicate with my 2876DB with V3.1.5 when using I1 mode. I2 mode is a no-response (same with previous revisions of the ISY firmware). Quote
LeeG Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 ryarber If you can post an Event Viewer trace with Device Communications Events selected during the device add it may be helpful. The ISY is trying to write to the new device to insure there are no active link records. Sounds like it cannot communicate with the device. Combine that with the possibility it could not communicate with the old device there may a communication problem with the install location. Does the SwitchLinc paddle manually control the load correctly? If not a communication problem per se perhaps some issue with the wiring to that specific switch location. The Event Trace will show what commands are failing. Lee Quote
LeeG Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 ryarber I just Deleted and added using New INSTEON Device my ICON Relay 2876SB with v.39 firmware. Used Auto Discover. Looks like that device type does work in general under 3.1.5. Lee Quote
elvisimprsntr Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Ok I've been putting up with an issue with the isy firmware going back to 2.x.x builds and I know the problem exists with 3.1.4. The problem has to do with the connection to the Elk M1 gold. When the Elk XEP Ethernet module is manually rebooted (typically after tweaking the tcpip settings for example) this causes the ISY to lock up. I can also cause the isy to lock up by simply rebooting my router. The problem also occurs when I loose power to my home. My isy and router are not on a ups. Config: 1. Elk m1 gold with all the latest firmware from 2/21/2011. Elk configured with static ip address, DNS, etc 2. Isy 99i pro ir with 3.1.4 or any prior release of firmware. Isy configured with static ip address and communicates to the elk over the unsecured port as required. Exported the isy lighting for import into the elk. Which all usually works well. 3. Wired Ethernet connection between isy and elk through e3000 router running dd-wrt firmware. Steps to duplicate: 1. make sure elk is running. 2. Reboot router. Wait 2 min. 3. Unplug isy power and reconnect 4. Pick any one of the following: a. Reboot elk xep interface b. Reboot router It seems like for what ever reason the isy completely locks up. Does the isy have a watch dog timer? Or is just the networking interface getting locked up? Is there a way to remotely reboot the isy by sending WOL commands or equivalent to the isy? Thanks in advance Elvis Quote
ryarber Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 It was a power strip/surge supressor I had in that room. I have had it for many months and it just now started acting up. Unplugged it and it is communicating fine now. The thing that had me baffled is that I hadn't changed anything at all in the house in quite a while and this thing just popped up. That is why I assumed that it was the ISY update. Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Hello Elvis, Thanks so very much for the detail steps to reproduce. Have you tried 3.1.5? The main issue is that ISY makes a connection to ELK and keeps that connection open. Obviously, the system should not hang when ELK/router are rebooted but, at the moment, ISY does not know that any of those systems are rebooted. I think that during reboot, ELK sends a command/status that ISY does not expect. We do not use watchdog timers since we would never ever be able to figure out the root cause. We will definitely look into this and see if we can fix it before the ELK module. With kind regards, Michel Quote

With kind regards, Michel I have not tried 3.1.5, but i did not read anything in the change log that would lead to beleive it would fix the problem. I would try 3.1.5, but I am 1500 miles away from my ISY which is currently locked up. Seems like a hardware WDT if implemented to trap register/program state would be helpful in addition other types program errors (i.e. divide by zero, overflow, etc.) The more end user programming cabability you provide, the more opportunity to induce these types of problems. But then I come from an industry of mission critical, human rated applications. Quote
dennisric Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I have updated to 3.1.5 with no problems. I tried to change the number of columns under the settings option but it doesn't make the change. It always shows as one column. How is this feature supposed to work? Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Hello Elvis, You are 100% correct; the fact that you are 1000s of miles away and with a system that does not respond is quite bad. I had no clue this bug would show itself under any other circumstances besides having ELK RP connected and thus kept postponing this fix till we have our ELK module. I do apologize and this shall be fixed in the next release. Hello dennisric, Are you referring to the number of columns on the AJAX interface? If so, you would not actually see any change unless you are on a mobile device with a low resolution. With kind regards, Michel Quote

I do apologize and this shall be fixed in the next release. With kind regards, Michel Thanks. Some people use their ISY for monitoring water, temperature, carbon monoxide, security, control sprinkler systems, etc. All of which could potentially cause loss of life or damage to property if the system fails at the most inopportune time. If UDI thinks of any particular problem in that light and categorizes the problem based on criticality, this might help prioritize changes. Thanks again. Elvis Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Hello Elvis, We do surely take these issues quite seriously and this bug was an oversight. This said, however, as reliable and robust we would like ISY to be, it was never designed with those application in mind. This is clearly stated in our Disclaimers & Terms/Conditions of Use and especially since we added support for door locks. In any case, I do apologize and this shall be fixed as soon as possible. With kind regards, Michel Quote

Illusion Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Smooth upgrade. Fixed event viewer level selection for me Fixed Switchlinc Relay LED Backlight issue. BTW. There appears to be two identical "Release 3.1.5 (Beta) Is Now Available" topics with different replies. Forum Bug? Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Hi guys, thanks so very much for the update. Illusion, the forum duplicate was my bug ... I hit the submit button then quickly pressed back to check something (thinking that our slow forum would never be able to actually post the topic in that short amount of time) and then submitted again. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to merge the posts. With kind regards, Michel Quote
Candide Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I upgraded from 3.1.4 to 3.1.5 and all went smoothly. However after a few days I have noticed that the weather module seems to not update properly, though it is intermittent. In the past I could switch between two (or more) sites and the info would update on the screen. With 3.1.5 it seems to only take the first change - and now the data does not appear to update. The reason I switch at all is because the closest location to me does not have "light" settings, so I occasionally change to one that does. Thanks... Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Hello Candide, Would you please check the error log and see what type of errors you see for CLI-WBUG? With kind regards, Michel Quote
tim2u Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Irrigation Module Question: I'm interested in testing the irrigation module, but have 2 questions: 1) is the Weatherbug module required before you can use the irrigation module? Or, are they the same thing/module? 2) According to the link below, it looks like the irrigation module contains data for Current Temp, High Temp and Low Temp. Is this true? If so, can I access these values via programs? http://universal-devices.com/mwiki/inde ... ion_Module Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 Hello tim2u, You need both modules. And, temperature variables come from WeatherBug and thus, YES, you can use them in your programs. With kind regards, Michel Quote
