timlacey Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi, I recently replaced a faulty PLM and restored the PLM and devices with ISY. Everything works fine, except two of my keypadlincs (one of them a new dualband 2876S) do not show up in the event viewer. I would assume this means that eh PLM is lacking links for the keypadlincs, so I've restored device a couple of times on both. They still don't work. They control all the scenes with the other keypadlincs fine, they respond to all scenes just fine. The ISY just doesn't see any key presses from them. How should I troubleshoot/fix this? I'm running 3.0.12 now and had been running 3.0.10 when I did the PLM restore. Tim
Michel Kohanim Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi Tim, There seems to have been an issue with upgrading the database records from 3.1.9 to 3.1.10. If you have 3.1.9 backup, it would be best to restore 3.1.9 backup and then follow the same File | Restore Modem procedure. With kind regards, Michel
timlacey Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 I had upgraded from 2.8.16 so that's the only pre 3.0.10 backup I've got. You think that will should work better. Another thing - the second keypadlinc was a new one I added in 3.0.10, so it wouldn't have been an import problem. It is the new dual-band one. I added it after the upgrade rather than doing it before. Is there any link table I can compare to check on this? Doesn't a device restore restore the PLM links as well? What you're proposing seems like a lot of work, especially if I know that one keypadlinc is not failing as a result of the database upgrade process? Would deleting and re-adding the device to the database solve the problem? Tim
LeeG Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 timlacey Right click on the primary KeypadLinc node in the My Lighting tree, select Diagnostics | Show Device Links Table. When the display is complete click on the Compare button along the bottom of the display. After a few seconds an additional list of the link records are displayed with some designation at the beginning of each link record indicating "Identical" or "Mismatch". Lee
timlacey Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Yes, they match up and they are identical. What I believe is that the PLM links are wrong or missing. But counting the PLM links takes so long and seems unreliable. Tim
LeeG Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 If the link records match at the device then either some PLM link records are missing or the device has an issue on the powerline. The fastest solution to missing PLM links is to Delete the device and add it back to the ISY. This will establish the PLM links during the device add.
timlacey Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Tried that. First I confirmed that the PLM links did not contain links for the keypadlinc. So I deleted the device. Then after a while, I restarted the ISY admin and saw buttons A, G, and H still there. So I deleted the device again, and it went away. Then I reset the console (closed and logged back in) and added the keypadlinc again. Still nothing. it seems that the PLM is not getting programmed for it. I do see in the log, writing PLM group commands, so I assume it's happening. So the KeypadLinc is back in the ISY, but still doesn't see any commands from the keypad. And the keypad works great as a controller for other switches. . . So what's up? And how can I fix this? Is restoring the PLM still the preferred solution? If so, I can do it tomorrow during the day. . . Thanks, TIm
LeeG Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Try unplugging the PLM for 60 seconds first. Adding the KeypadLinc would have written the link records in the KeypadLinc and the PLM. I am beginning to have concerns over the PLM itself. If the power cycle does not work restoring the 2.8.16 backup taken before going to 3.1.10. Then a Restore Modem (PLM). After that at least one of the KeypadLincs will have to be added again because it was not in the system at 2.8.16.
timlacey Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Will try that soon. I'm surprised there isn't any better troubleshooting capability with the PLM. I got the list of PLM links and I wish I had a way to compare against the list expected by the ISY. I saved a copy of the links from the PLM and I searched on the ID of both keypadlincs. The one keypadlinc found a few entries, but the newer one added under 3.1.10 and again under 3.1.12 showed nothing. Tim so far did the backup restore and got an error uploading file. . file size error. . . ugh. did the backup restore with a wired connection and all ok. . . restarted. removed out of date devices (lamp and old keypadlinc) rebooted ISY added 2 new devices - a dualband lamplinc and a dualband keypadlinc (2487s) set one button on the 2487S as a controller to test with ISY and PLM checked and upstairs 2487s is still not showing up on ISY rebooting ISY again (it can't hurt, after all) restoring modem now. .. after restore modem (takes a good long time but I let it finish uninterrupted),ISY is acting dead to the world. . . no status shows up for any device, and it doesn't even see a standard dimmer switch near me. i cannot query devices. I check PLM links and when I hit start, nothing happens. I unplug the PLM and plug it back in. . . nothing different. i rebooted the ISY (i could perhaps have just closed My Lighting and started a new session. . . ) and now it can query. now it can see the dimmer next to me. now the PLM loads in just fine. Now I seem to see all my devices once again. . . . I linked the new keypadlinc to all my scenes. . . all good. Everything seems to be working. Thanks, Tim
