Z-wave anyone?

I dont know if I should even ask : Is there plans for Z-wave support?

There are many Z-wave USB sticks for about $40. Would be easy to add Z-wave support...

I'm looking at intermatic multi-wave pool/spa controller which runs on z-wave.

From a post Michel did a few days ago regarding z-wave

"We are currently alpha testing the INSTEON/ZWave solution. This said, I really cannot give an ETA mostly because of all the certification requirements."

Is that "list of supported devices" limited by manufacturer, by types of devices (ie dimmers), or to certain specific devices (ie joe blow's model x dimmer)?

Is the limited device list a function of just needing time to add more compatibility to ISY or will it always be limited secondary to some inherent design constraint?

Not knowing much about z-wave, doesn't it have some sort of universal language? I thought part of the deal was that you could mix and match different manufacturers products with them all working in the same language.

Hello apostolakisl,

It simply means that we are not going to support all devices from all manufacturers from the get go. We will start with a limited set of devices that are "fully" supported and then - and based on user requirements - we may add support for other devices.

Although basic functionality may be interoperable but some of the most fundamental features are not in the basic commands. For instance, you might take INSTEON status reports as granted but you won't be able to in the case of ZWave.

adding my interest here of same

Cslee,

Is this the same Intermatic with z-wave you have been looking at ?

Intermatic PE653RC MultiWave Z-wave Pool/Spa/Home Control http://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-PE653RC-Wireless-Variable-Two-Speed/dp/B0042D4RQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341528826&sr=8-1&keywords=PE653RC If yes I am also interested to hear your feedback on it. Amazon reviews look as if it is fairly limited. Of course ISY connection would change all of it nicely.

Michel and UDI Gang,

Great to hear on the upcoming z-wave support and fully understand need for cautious roll out. Would be interested to hear an update your progress with Z-wave.

Sounds like this will be an add on to the 994 unit. Would this then mean decision between adding Zigbee or Z-wave or does the upgrade path include both? If not would be interested on your suggested path to include energy monitoring (Brultech) and Zwave.

thx

Hi Michel,

Wondering then. What is your suggested path for home energy monitoring without loosing option todo Z-wave when the time comes.

I have the ISY99i IR pro and am looking todo three steps here

1. upgrade to 994i ir pro

2. add home energy monitoring

3. add zwave (when its ready for beta etc)

Now I did see the thread here http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=8784 about no longer supporting energy on the ISY99i hence part of my Q here. I follow the 99i no longer supporting but type of connection does the 994i support for energy monitoring?

I was looking at ECM 1240 but open to all options. We have a simple QO 200amp main panel with sub panel.

thanks for any input

Hi Junkycosmos,

You can still use ECM1240 but through the network (not Zigbee).

There are multiple ZWave energy monitoring solutions as well which we may support.

All this said, please note that a good ZWave network requires at least 6 (usually 10 or more) devices for a good mesh unless ISY is very close to other ZWave devices. You have to plan for the number of ZWave devices you are going to have ... i.e. just a door lock might not work at all if the lock is far away from ISY.

With kind regards,

Michel

Any update on taking volunteers for Alpha testing?

I am hoping this new capability will allow me to transition from the GE Simon Alarm.com system from controlling my Trane Zwave thermostats. I've been holding off investing in door locks because of my heavy investment in my Insteon network. The opportunity to merge both under control of ISY would be awesome.

I hope you aren't running into any show stoppers.

Perhaps it will soon deserve its own announcement thread!

Hello rossarmstrong,

No showstoppers at all ... just trying to finalize the build for INSTEON (a variety and assortment of bugs) so that we can fully concentrate on making a build for ZWave.

I'm definitely interested in this as well. Although I've already purchased a model with zigbee in it (in order to have multiple energy monitors).

I'll be interested to see how things work out and what my options will be for potentially swapping (depending on energy monitoring support, possible support for greeneye monitor, and what devices are supported).

My goal at this point is to keep my main system as-is (insteon), control door locks (zwave), monitor energy (which may be possible with greeneye monitor, depending on the network support brought to ISY, assuming you're working on that).

Hi, is the plan to sell this as a separate module + hardware dongle? Second, do you plan to bundle the ZWave dongle with an ISY and sell that as a separate product (like the bundled Zigbee product)?

I'm holding off on my purchase based on this. Thank you.

There wouldn't happen to be an ETA on this, would there? I have two big orders in the works and would prefer to use some ISY994s. I could put them on hold for a bit if these modules will be released soon but may end up using Vera or Hometroller controllers...

Thanks for listening,

Keg

Gents,

I've been following the progress of zwave support through various threads on these forums for a few months now. I'm planning to add the zwave module to my 994i once it becomes available.

My question is, with the limited support for devices, will the 2gig CT100 zwave thermostat be on the intial support list? My plan is to build out a system with 6 thermostats and 4 Kwikset locks, and there's a good price on these thermostats. If there will be some support for these stats in the relatively near term then I'm going to place an order for them.

Thanks,

Ken.

Hi Ken,

Basic thermostat functionality should be there. This said, 2Gig ZWave lock is not "specifically" supported AND the initial list of locks does NOT include Kwikset. Currently Schlage and possibly Yale.

Hmmm ... too bad.

My house currently has Kwikset locks throughout so was hoping that I could just upgrade the deadbolts and match colour/style with existing door hardware.

This is indeed disappointing. :(

I thought Kwikset and Schlage used the same HAN Gateway in their locks? Or was that Baldwin and Kwikset? In any case, was hoping to see Kwikset support out of the gate.

Do we have a better idea of ETA? I'm not asking for a specific date, but are we talking about Q412, Q113, etc.? Thanks.

Hi homejones,

Our target date was end of this month but I do not think we'll make it. So, in short, we are very close but just some minor issues preventing us from releasing it now.

Is there a mailing list to receive notification when the z-wave module is released? Or is it just best to keep watching this bb regularly.

Thanks,

Ken.
