Trying to add a Garage Hawk to ISY99/IR (1030) - NO LUCK

My firmware on my ISY99 is 3.1.17 Everything works, but I can't link the Garage Hawk I just bought.

Anyone got any ideas?

Could be an I2CS device which requires the latest Official release 3.2.6.

Can you provide some additional information. What link method was used, what were the results (beyond cannot link), perhaps an Event Viewer with Level 3 covering the link attempt. Try moving the device closer to the ISY PLM for linking purposes.

According to the Garage Hawk web site ISY support is "Comin Soon".

Here is my reply from Garage Hawk. It looks like the ball is in Universal Devices court

Hi Tim,

The last time I spoke with Universal Devices they were prioritizing the

introduction of new features based on user requests and had not yet released

their support for GarageHawk. We have provided Universal Devices with

engineering samples of our product for development of GarageHawk support. I

would urge you to contact Universal Devices either directly or through their

forum to request GarageHawk support. Customer requests carry much more weight

than requests from another vendor.

Having said that, I assume the ISY-99 will use our recommended method for

communicating with GarageHawk. Due to the complex nature of the communication

between GarageHawk modules we recommend that automation controllers link to a

GarageHawk Remote Module. GarageHawk Remote Modules have been designed to

aggregate all communication within the GarageHawk network and simply extend all

"Close Button" functions to the automation controller.

We have received numerous other inquiries concerning ISY support. We would be

delighted to add them to our list of supporting controllers and would be happy

to help in any way we can. Please let me know if you are able to obtain any

additional information concerning ISY-99 support for GarageHawk and feel free to

call me directly if you would like to discuss in greater detail.

I suspect when Smartlabs introduced the Garage Door Kit based on the I/O Linc user interest in Gareage Hawk fell off.

Hi Tim,

Unfortunately we have not had time to support GH mostly because of lack of demand and thus it became a low priority.

I am so very sorry.

With kind regards,

Michel

The other suggestion that was made is to consider other INSTEON automation controllers that I’m told currently support GarageHawk. Hardware based controllers similar to the ISY-99 include HomeRunner RBI and HomeSeer HomeTroller-SE.

Software based GarageHawk compatible automation controllers like mControl are also an option. :P

Are you really suggesting changing to a completely different automation controller because the ISY does not support GH?

YES

Good luck. Let us know if you find a better dedicated Insteon automation controller both technically and one that has as good product support as the UDI team provides. I did lots of research before getting my first ISY (I now have three) and found it the best of breed.

Damn! I wish I had known there was no support for Garage Hawk on ISY before I spent the money on TWO of them. Come On ISY.....I was thinking you supported all Insteon Devices.

Unfortunately, I did not purchase the Remote Modules because I had intended on adding these to my Insteon Network via ISY. Ugh!!

From what I have read in the Garage Hawk section here.

You probably would need the Remote Module anyway.

Garage Hawk uses some added commands between their units and the remote module.

Then it translates the commands to ones most controllers can understand.

For the ISY controller to use the 19 commands directly. Would most likely add lots of code to the firmware

I came to similar conclusions as others. The garage hawk looked like a nice device for those looking for a descrete system to remotely control a garage door, or for those not having an insteon controller, or not wanting to integrate garage door control with other aspects of automation. For those with an ISY-994 controller, it seems to me that the IOLinc offered a bit more flexibility.

But, my decision is made, and I have not kept up with it, or investigated it further since I first noticed it a few years ago.
