Java Console Connection Question

When I am at my office, I can log onto ISY since I have my home and office networks linked via vpn routers.

The connection at my office will frequently go offline when connected. The green ready flag at the bottom goes red, I get an exclamation point next to my lighting, and most of the menu bar items grey out.

However, I can still load my programs and I can still arm my Elk using ISY. It doesn't update the Elk status bar, but the system does arm. If I close and re-open the console, the Elk shows armed (of course it blinks yellow saying the exit timer is running even though it finished, but we are dealing with that elsewhere).

What gives? How can the connection be lost, but yet it still arms the elk and I can still open programs? I can also turn outputs on/off and query the outputs even when it supposedly isn't connected.

It also does this from my computers at home, just not nearly so frequently.

Funny! This JUST happened to me about 5 minutes ago. In my case there is no Elk involved. I have added my ISY to this workstation both by private IP and by https//dyndns_name. I suspect that when my VPN drops the console falls back to the dyndns name rather than the IP. I do need to re-authenticate to the ISY when this happens and that is usually my indicator that the VPN dropped when the ISY USER/PASS dialog pop up.

Hi Guys,

Communications with ISY and subscriptions (ISY -> Computer) are two different things. ISY is dropping subscriptions because it cannot connect to your computer or something is blocking it.

With kind regards,

Michel

So you are saying that the Java console is expecting something from the ISY and not getting it. Thus it shows the red flag and greys out. But the Java console is still sending commands that are reaching their destination.

So, assuming I understand correctly, what would block it the comm in just the one direction? And why would it not block all the time?

In my case, i get the red flag and exclamation mark when my laptop awakes from sleep mode. Is there any way to reconnect with the isy without closing the admin console and restarting it? Logon doesn't work.

A day or two ago my AC started exhibiting the red flag (everything greyed out) after about 2 hours after each restart. The only thing new is the Java version (build 1.7.0_15-b03) running on my MAC (10.8.2). I am connecting locally via my network so there are no VPNs involved. This has never happened before, but unfortunately it is very repeatable right now. Even once the AC goes to the red flag, the ISY operates fine and I can always access via Mobilinc.

Also, according to the Java download site, 7u11 has been disabled by Apple for OSX, so I guess I cannot try an earlier java version (which was working fine).

Thanks.
