andrew77
I recently got my 1.5s replaced because I had all these issues. A few people told me that the 1.5s were very problematic. I still have issues with the 1.65s when I try to make them a part of a scene. The scene "system busy" goes through two or three times really slow and then it just says Request Failed. Any ideas at all? Andrew
Michel Kohanim
Andrew, I am so very sorry for the problems you are experiencing. To isolate the issue, please do be kind enough to try Querying your KPL 2-3 times and make sure there are no Device Communication Errors. Let me know the outcome. andrew77
Hi Michel; As always, thanks for the quick reply. I've queried both my KPLs and they seem to be fine, no error messages. (I take it I right click on the load of the KPL and select "Query", no laughing but I've never done that before) I've just tried to add a KPL button 7 as a controller to an existing scene and it gave me the same response, Request Failed. Am I doing something wrong? Everyone seems to have no problem doing this and I run into problems everytime I turn around. One of my KPL button 8 turns on a scene and I've never even created a scene with the buttons (because of the issue with the Request Failed) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think Insteon is a great product and the ISY is the perfect match for it. I just need to get the bugs out. Drew
Michel Kohanim
Drew, Please do the following: 1. telnet isy.ip.address 126 2. DBG 1 3. Log into your Admin Console 4. Start Java Console (the icon is at the bottom right corner in the systray) 5. Try adding your KPL to a scene 6. Look at the Java Console to see what ISY is doing The problem could be that you have some other device in the scene which is not responding. Have you tried putting one of these buttons in am empty scene? With kind regards, Michel Hi Michel; As always, thanks for the quick reply. andrew77
I tried adding a KPL to an empty scene and although the progress indicator was faster, it still gave me the same result. I tried it as a Controller and a responder. I'm sorry, I don't know enough to know what you want me to do with the telnet.(?) Drew
Algorithm
Drew, To telnet to ISY, you can find instructions on this Wiki page. Once you are logged into the ISY shell, type: DBG 1 This will set the debug mode to 1. Then type: XS to exit the shell. Note that all shell commands must be in upper case. Next, open your Administrative Console. Then open your Java console. This can be done from your browser (Tools menu in Firefox), or from the Java Control Panel. The Java Control Panel can be opened either from the Java icon in your system tray, or from Windows Control Panel. Once your Java console window is open, please try adding your KPL to a scene. Then look at the Java console window, and kindly let us know what it reports. Or if you prefer, please do contact us directly at 818.631.0333. andrew77
Hi Darrell; I've tried to link up with you guys for two days and I don't think it's working. No fault on you guys at all. Please don't think that I'm being rude. I work long hours and that limits the time frame that you guys can get back to me. So let's try and figure it out over this forum. I tried removing one of the KPL and rediscovering it, removing all links as it did so. I query it and it's fine. Once it failed but then i do it 4-5 times again after and it's fine. When i try to add it to a scene (first or last) as a controller or a responder, I get the Request Failed. I put it in an existing scene, or a brand new one and still the failure. Any other ideas? Algorithm
Drew, Apologies for the difficulties in connecting on the phone. I do understand about your hours. Would you be kind enough to try to telnet to ISY and set DBG 2, then open your Java console, try adding a KPL primary button to an empty scene, and report what the Java console displays? It really is not difficult at all. Thanks so much, Darrell Hi Darrell; I've tried to link up with you guys for two days and I don't think it's working. No fault on you guys at all. andrew77
Sorry for not understanding (I know I'm probably wearing thin by now.) I know how to do everything but open up the JAVA console. I go to Control panel and double click java and a property window opens up There's about 5 or so tabs on it (security, etc...) Is this the right window to be looking at? I don't think it is but I don't know. What should i see and what am I looking for when I create the scene? Drew
Algorithm
Hello Andrew, No need to apologize. In the window you mention, click on the Advanced tab, and you will see a Settings tree. Expand the Java console branch, and choose Show console. However, it is easier to display the Java console either by finding the Java icon in your system tray (looks like a coffee cup on a white background), right-click on it, and choose Open Console; OR by opening the console from your browser (in Firefox, under the Tools menu). Hope this helps, Darrell

andrew77
Okay, So I DBG 2 and put a KPL (non load) button as a controller into a scene and it worked but when I open ed the program it it told me it couldn't communicate with other switches (then I query and they are fine?) andrew77
Hi Darrell, I think things seem to be okay. (I say this cautiously) When I upgraded Java, I had an initial failed request but now I've tried it (by that I mean making an empty scene and adding a KPL non load button as a controller) and I can't seem to make it fail. andrew77
I know you don't want to hear from me but linking is failing again. I noticed last night that about 80% of the time it would be good but today it's acting up again. I can't seem to add anything to a scene (new or old) without it failing. Am I the only one with these issues? Drew PS I've been querying my network lighting and sometimes I get a can't Communicate error. when I check it again it's fine. Drew (third edit on this posting) Linking sometimes works and other times not. I can't seem to nail down a variable as far as what's different with either. I've added a KPL (button H) as a controller to a scene. The scene also has another controller (SWL) When I turn on the SWL the LED on the KPL lights up. But I can't control the scene with the KPL. And now it says it can't communicate with the KPL (although sometimes it can) ?
Michel Kohanim
Hi Drew, Of course we want to hear from you! Here are my thoughts: If you do not get the Linking In Progress dialog, then most probably you need a new PLM. This is the case especially if what you are witnessing is intermittent. If you have device comm errors, we have to figure out what's the cause ... if this happens randomly, then we have to figure out what changed from the previous run. I know this could be a daunting task, but unfortunately there's now other way around this. With kind regards, Michel I know you don't want to hear from me but linking is failing again. I noticed last night that about 80% of the time it would be good but today it's acting up again. I can't seem to add anything to a scene (new or old) without it failing. andrew77
The light on one of my access points flickers now and then. Does that mean something? The other one stays dim but doesn't flicker. I can sometimes add KPL buttons to scenes without the Request failed, but they don't trigger the scene, just their LED Drew I have two KPLs and it seems I can add buttons from the other KPL easily and they respond as they should. Do you think there's something wrong with the KPL? Drew Scratch that. I got the KPL (the problem one) to trigger the scene. but even though everything in the scene is a controller the LED won't shut off when the scene is shut off from another controller. and when I went to click on the LED brightness it gave me a Request Failed. If it works sometimes does that mean the KPL is good? (I hope so because the shipping is killing me)
Michel Kohanim
Drew, The first thing we should do is to figure out if you have communications issues. If so, that would explain the intermittent nature of what you are experiencing. What you have to do is to query your KPLs and see if you get device comm errors. If you do, then please try putting an AccessLinc close to your KPL and try it again. Also, it might be that you have some other device which is producing noise such as dryer, plasma TV, etc. As such, you have to figure out when the errors happen and under what conditions. I do think that your PLM has something to do with it ... I'll send you an email. With kind regards, Michel The light on one of my access points flickers now and then. andrew77
I don't know if this one will help you as they both added to an empty scene with no problem as responders. The System Busy progress bars moved quite fast, leaping percentages 6 points at a time which is indicative of a good link, as opposed to when they crawl along one percent at a time and scroll through the whole thing 2-3 times, then they fail. But sometimes (it happened today) when i log on it asked me to Authenticate my Lighting again. Is this odd. Michel Kohanim
Hi Drew, The errors you are getting are generated by Java plugin itself without the participation of any of our code (com.universal.xxxxx). I suspect a firewall issue. In any case, though, this may have nothing to do with what you are experiencing. Now, since you were able to add your devices into an empty scene, this tells me a few things: 1. The problem may be noise related ... there was no noise at the time you tried this 2. The PLM is happy temporarily 3. It's one of the other devices in the scene that may be causing the problem Please do be kind enough to keep the DBG on, look at the Java console, and keep adding other devices that have to be in this scene, copy/paste the Java console into here. Thanks and with kind regards, Michel
andrew77
I've put everything into a scene with no problems at all. (usually the command prompt times out, is this fine?)
