Is there any consideration given to developing an Admin Console which does not use Java? Given the recent news related to Java and the security issues related to it, and the trouble Mac users have using Java in general, would it be better to migrate the application to something else?

Yes we have but each one has its own issues. Currently the only cross platform solution is Javascript but that requires websockets support which is not trivial.
